Remarks: This company was successively designated as Captain Dickins' Company, Mississippi Volunteers, and as Captain Dickins' Company, Captain Crump's Company, (Old) Company E and (New) Company F, 12th Regiment Mississippi Infantry.
The 12th Regiment Mississippi Infantry was organized May 1861 of companies which had previously been in the State service and was mustered into the Confederate service fro twelve months. About April 1862 the regiment was reorganized and the letters of all companies, except D, were changed.

Rufus Butler was married two times. First to Mary James Abernathy and second to Katy Rose. He married Mary Abernathy in either Tennessee or Mississippi and had three sons Thomas Ethelbert Butler, Oscar Butler and John Butler. Oscar and John died young. Rufus and Katy married in Alabama and had William Oscar Butler, Beulah Rose Butler Cantley and Nora Butler Middlebrook. There may be other children but are not known at this time. Rufus lost his first wife and two of his sons in the 1850's. He then moved to Alabama and married Katy Rose. Not sure when either Rufus or Katy died..still searching
