Her nephew Bruce Jenkins also refers to her by this name. -- OBJ Kathy was living in Hacienda Heights, California in 1997.

Louella was the first child of Ebby Elijah Jenkins and his second wife HarrietTefteller. IN the 1920 census she is listed as Louella Jenkins, and in 1930 as Lucile Jenkins. That seems to indicate that these were her two given names. I have put them in the order Louella Lucile just for euphony. This seems the most likely sequence of names given the geographcial and cultural context. 1920 Federal Census, Cass County, Texas, 20 June, Justice Precinct 3, Enumeration District 3, page 7B, Naples and Dalton Rd, Hse/Fam #124 Jenkins, Ebb Head Rents M W 34 TX TN GA Farming [b abt 1886] Jenkins, Harriet Wife F W 27 TX US TX [b abt 1893] Jenkins, Emma Fay Dau F W 12 TX TX TX [b abt 1908] Jenkins, Louella Dau F W 2 months TX TX TX [b Mar 1920]
I remember Aunt Mabel from my earliest years. We would visit her often, as she lived in Chickasha, Oklahoma, the same town as my grandparents. Even as an adult, I do not remember ever knowing her middle name. Mabel had been divorced earlier, and I never knew her husband Oscar. 1910 Federal Census, Stephens County, Oklahoma, 2 May, District #239, p #18A, P #251, Wall Township, Marlow City, Fourth Ward, Family #347: Jenkins, Joseph A. I have not yet found her in a 1920 census record. I note that in the 1910 census Mabel's mother is reported as born in Georgia in Julia's own listing, but in Mabel's record she is reported as born in Texas! I have found that the Texas birth place is right, though there was some confusion in the children's reports from census to census and in later memories reported to their children. In 1912 Mabel went to British Columbia with her mother and siblings. A Canadian Immigration record reports their entry at White Rock, British Columbia, on their way to join Mary's father Joseph Asa in Vancouver. The family went to Vancouver by train. This record says all the children were born in Texas, like Jennie, though from family and public records, we know all the children were born in Marlow, Oklahoma. This is also the spelling in notes taken by Lou Ila Jenkins, thought to be information from Jennie Jenkins, Mabel's mother. I found that her name on her gravestone is spelled Mable. It is hard to tell why this error would have occurred. I never saw it spelled in family sources other than Mabel. I later found that this is the spelling of her name in the 1930 census. I have commonly seen the name spelled Mabel, though I learned only recently that some people spell the name Mable, as on the gravestone. I found that on the Fairlawn Cemetery Registry, the name is spelled as Mabel, despite the error on the gravestone. I think the family spelling is Mabel, but I lack sources now to confirm this, as all that generation have died. I have not been able to discover when she and Oscar divorced.
Jimmy Epperson reports her name with the spelling Margeret: http://genealogy.eppytx.com/FamilyTree/F014.htm In the "Jenkins Family History" (private paper) Harold Keith Christian reports (p 8): "Known as Kate, Margaret was born January 6, 1862, probably on the family farm near Dalton, Texas." 1880 Federal Census, Cass County, Texas, 16 June, District 12, Precinct 3, Page 17, House and Family #144 Jenkins, Joseph W M 52 Farmer SC SC SC Jenkins, Louisa W F 42 Wife Keeps House Miss Miss Ireland Jenkins, Margaret C W F 17 Daughter Farming Tx SC Miss 1900 Federal Census, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, 13 June, Township 3, District 132, page 6A, Hse/Fam #93 Winter, Nelson H Head W M Jan 1857 43 TX Unknown Unknown Farmer Winter, Margare[t] Wife W F Jan 1864 36 TX MS MS Margaret's census reports are uncertain about where her father was born. The 1900 and 1910 censuses show both Margaret's parents both born in Mississippi, though Joseph was born in South Carolina. In the 1920 census, it appears the enumerator just copied Nelson's information for Margaret. Also in 1910, she is called Catherine E. I don't know what the E might have represented. She always went by Nan. We called her Aunt Nan. Her funeral information had her name as Netheline M Callaway. This order of her names is also ofudn inteh Social Security Death Index, though no family source agrees. The censuses which record her variously as Marth N, Mattie N, and Netheline (with no other initial). She was my favorite aunt on my Dad's side (Orville Lee Jenkins), or at least the one I was closest to. She is the one of Dad's siblings I have the earliest childhood memories of as a distinct person. I was 7 or 8, Nan came and stayed with us a few days when we lived on 11th Street (US Hwy 287 West) in Quanah, Texas. This was before she married. Nan married late in life and never had children of her own. She loved Lenard's children like her own, and always spoke to us of them with deep affection, and she would keep us updated on news of her family. I remember our family visiting them in Midwest City when I was a child. I remember going to church services with them at First Baptist Church. My girlfriend Edith made a trip with our family to Oklahoma in 1968 and we visited Nan and Lenard then. Later after Edith and I were married we visited them many times. When we were back in the US from Kenya, East Africa, in 1980-81, we visited them with our two new boys, in the US for the first time. Her husband Lenard reported to family members that Nan died 30 March 2007, in Richardson Memorial Hospital in Richardson, Dallas County, Texas, after having a stroke. She had been undergoing dialysis after suffering kidney failure in August 2006. She and her husband Lenard had just moved to Richardson when she had her stroke, and she died about two weeks later. I found that the funeral remembrance card information, as well as the obituary published in the Midwest City Sun, indicated that Nan died in Plano, Texas, a neighbouring suburb of Dallas. I would think that the funeral announcement information was based on information from Lenard, but we heard no update on the place where she was when she died. Maybe she was moved from Richardson to a nearby facility in Plano, where she died shortly after. I am reporting the place of death as Lenard gave it to us. The funeral was held 5 April 2007 in First Baptist Church, Midwest City, Oklahoma, where Lenard and Nan had been members for decades. The funeral, with burial following in Arlington Memory Garden, was conducted by Bill Eisenhour Southeast Funeral Home, Oklahoma City. Here is the text of the Obituary that appeared in the Midwest City Sun, 8 April 2007: Netheline (Nan) Callaway, 88, died March 30, 2007, in Plano, Texas. A funeral service was 2 p.m. April 5 at the First Baptist Church in Midwest City. Burial followed at Arlington Memory Gardens. Services were under the direction of Bill Eisenhour Southeast. She was born Dec. 25, 1918, in Mountain View, to Joseph and Virginia (Terry) Jenkins. She moved the Midwest City area from Chickasha in 1947. Nan married Lenard Callaway in Oklahoma City June 5, 1959. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Midwest City and was an administrative assistant for the FAA. She resigned to work with Lenard on other business ventures. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Lenard Callaway; three stepchildren, Tricia Callaway Bolz, Tony and Michael Callaway; and many nieces and nephews.
One early source records the name of what appears to be this same child as "Mary Louizer." Family note paper, in the possession of family members. This source also states the date as 21 Jan 1857, whereas in another report, Harold Christian gives the date of birth as 20 Jan 1857. Harold Keith Christian reports in the Jenkins Family History (private paper) that Mary was born on the family farm near Marlow. In 1912 Mary made a trip to British Columbia. A Canadian Immigration record reports her entry with her stepmother Jennie and the other children to join Mary's father Joseph Asa, who was working there. The family went to Vancouver by train. This record reports that Mary was born in Texas. For some reason this immigration records has all the children born in Texas, like Jennie, though other records, including family information, tells us all the children was born in Marlow, Oklahoma. The Ancestry.com transcriptions, further, are incorrect in several regards. Mary's name is written by the enumerator as Yates, Mary H, rather than Mary N. Neil's name appears to be spelled Niel. In 1930 Neil and Mary are living in North Caddo Township of Caddo County, Oklahoma. Two new children have been born since the last census report: Bertha and Cleve. Family information reported by Harold Christian indicates the wedding was in Marlow, but no family member had the date of the marriage.
After the divorce of his parents, Matthew Tucker Jenkins was adopted by his step-father, whose last name was Barbour. This changed Matthew's name to Matthew Tucker Barbour.
