Notes for Lunetta COMPTON

Lunetta Compton was the first of three wives of William Buster Hill. Her name
and the name of the second wife were unknown to us until a new round of
searching in November 2018 revealed the name of Nancy Sullins, found through a
Social Security record reporting her and W B Hill as her parents. Updated
notes and reconfigured family relationships led to additional records, and
shortly thereafter the name of an earlier wife named Lunetta Compton.

The 1880 census reported William with his wife Nancy, then after adding new
information about John Briggs Hill, the oldest child found in that census,
Briggs' mother was found, thanks to FamilySearch, where the family
relationship and the marriage record for Lunetta Compton were found on 29
November 2018.

In the 1945 Kansas City directory, there are four directory entries for the
name Conchola, all at the same address. This indicates one household but
separate adult identities. The 1940 census informs us that the married couple
Joseph and Ruth ar parents and Lupe is the oldest child in the household, and
David is her brother. The name Angelina does not appear in the 1940 census
above.

Lupe married Phillip Camacho Jr in Kansas City, Missouri. They are reported
to have had four chidlren in the time they were married. This means they were
married about 5 years, leading to the conclusion of marriage around 1955. No
marriage record has been found.

Notes for James E CONLEY

Birthdates of parents in this 1880 census are uncertain, because the entries
are inconsistent. For the children, most have only the individual's birth
state, and no separate entry in the field for Mother or Father's state of
birth. So it seems we are to assume the states reported in their parents'
individual records.

But on others it seems the enumerator followed the common practice of drawing

CEDAR LANE, TEXAS. Cedar Lane is on Caney Creek at the junction of Farm roads
457 and 521, twenty miles southeast of Bay City in east central Matagorda
County. The original settlement clustered around a plantation store, with an
approach through a lane of cedars. In 1912 the community secured its own post
office and by that time was a stop on the Texas and New Orleans Railroad. By
1914 Cedar Lane had a population of twenty-five and a telephone connection.

In 1936 the community had a church, a school, two businesses, sixteen
dwellings, and a paved thoroughfare. It also had its own school district.
During the school year 1937-38 four teachers instructed eighty-five students.
By 1949 Cedar Lane school had been consolidated with the Van Vleck Independent
School District. In 1940 Cedar Lane had an estimated fifty inhabitants and two
businesses and in 1967 fifty-seven residents and three business. In 1972 the
settlement had a church, the Kennedy school, and several scattered dwellings.

In 1990 Cedar Lane had a population of eighty-five and no businesses, and in
2000 a population of fifty-five with three businesses.

James was enumerated in Grayson, Texas, in the 1880 census, with his wife
Nancy Elizabeth Winter, whom he had married since the 1870 census. The oldest
child is Mary Ann, whose birthday was reported in the Winter-Conley family
Bible as 1 August 1874. This suggests that James and Nancy Elizabeth married
in 1873.

Birth dates of parents in this 1880 census are uncertain, because the entries
are inconsistent. For the children, most have only the individual's birth
state, and no separate entry in the field for Mother or Father's state of
birth. So it seems we are to assume the states reported in their parents'
individual records.

But on others it seems the enumerator followed the common practice of drawing
down the last entered state in that same column. like a ditto. And on a
couple of the parents, not all fields are fulfilled, which we usually take to

Notes for Mary Annie CONLEY

In the 1880 census, Mary Ann was reported as 5 years old. Her family Bible
reports her birth date as 1 August 1874.

Birthdates of parents in this 1880 census are uncertain, because the entries
are inconsistent. For the children, most have only the individual's birth

In 1910, we find James and Mary have moved north to Pottawatomie County,
Oklahoma. This census gives us everybody's middle initial.

Now Annie is called Mary A. This tells us she is Mary Annie. A family
genealogy tells us this is Mary Annie Conley. Their daughter Dora has been
married since the 1910 census, buit is now reported as a widow. Later she
will be reported as Divorced, rather than Widowed.
