Loretta Gregory Gay says he had a son named Richard. In October 2010, I received a photo of their gravestone giving years of birth and death for Harry and Dorothea. There are three children reported in the household in the 1940 census. This would mean that the one named Richard known by the Green-Gregory family in Oklahoma was the youngest child, born some time after the 1940 census. As of October 2010, Doyle had died but three others were still living. Hubert later went by Hugh. The SSDI reports Harry's last stated residence was Canyon, Randall County, Texas. The Green-Lovin-Brewer genealogy, while including this report from the SSDI, however, reports that he died in Amarillo, Potter County. His death certificate which I did not see until October 2010 tells us he died in a hospital in Amarillo, as I had earlier surmised. After his death his wife Dorthea marreid Harry's widowed brother Glen Woodrow, whose wife had died in 1983 in Umpire, Arkansas. The SSDI records only the month and year of Harry's death. The Texas Death Index records the full date of 17 July 1987 and reports Potter County as the county of death. His death certificate was provided to me by Rachel Ruthart in October 2010. The log home is currently owned by Forrest Hamrick and is on the east side of North Main Street." -- http://home.att.net/~hdbridges/greene.htm [This would be a different Henry Green, sicne this perons, the son of William Marion Green, was born in only 1775. We are not satisfied who this King's Mountain hero named Henry Green was.] Various sources attest to the participation of William in the Revolutionary War as a Tory. Though a citizen of the State of North Carolina, he accepted a British commission. When he was captured at the famous Battle of Kings Mountain, along with the British contingent, he was held and convicted to be shot as a traitor, since it was claimed he had sworn allegiance to the United States and the State of North Carolina. Most source say Henry was born about 1770. A source for most of this family gives a birth date of 1797 for Henry. This might be the child of another member of this Green family. Other sources give a birth date of 1756 and 1770 for the same Henry Green. But note that his supposed mother, Lucretia, was only born in 1855! I am thinking this is related to a conflation of two or perhaps three generations, with two men named Meshack, and perhaps two or more sons named Henry. Enumerated next door to his brother Thomas and near a Mary Green, age 26 or under, but the oldest in her hosuehold, who is likely Thomas and Henry's sister. No birth date is found in records for Mary, the youngest child in Meshack and Lucretia Greene's family. This census would place her birth about 1784 or 1785. 1820 Federal Census, Pendleton District, South Carolina, Enumeration Date 7 August 1820 (no date on page), p 37 Henry Greene Free White Persons - Males - Under 10: 2 - Males - 10 thru 16: 2 - Males - 26 thru 44: 1 - Females - Under 10: 2 - Females - 10 thru 26: 1 - Females - 26 thru 44: 1 Alley Caroline Foreigners not Naturalized: 3 Total Free White Persons: 9 No Slaves, Colored In this census, which matches place and family members for Henry and Alley, both Henrya and his wife are reproted as 45 or under. It could be a father and son -- birth dates of children would match with the family of Henry and Caroline Saxon being the parent family and Henry who married Alley Saxon as the son. After continuing to analyze the ages, brith dates and other family factors, I began to wonder if the reported wives Caroline and Alley were the same person. If Alley was the second wife, she was in her 40s before she started bearing children. It seems more likely that a younger woman continued bearing children into her mid to late 40s. Birth dates given for children of Henry and Alley Saxon are in the 1800s-1830s. This is late if not impossible for a person born in 1756 (as some sources report, making her 70 years old at the birth of the first known child!), possible for someone born in 1770, but more likely for a person born in 1797. But note Headley's dates given here. He has no dates of birth,d eath or marriage for Caroline Saxon (reported first wife). Marriage to Alley Saxon is reported as abt 1807 and birth of Carline's first child is also reported as abt 1807! Allowing for a year or more play on the estimated dates, this seems to indicate that Caroline and Alley were the same person. After finding some censuses, the details were clearer. In the 1850 census, Alley is apparently a widow, with Henry missing from the enumeration, and what appears to be three daughters in her household. But this means the report that Henry died in 1869 would be wrong. Maybe he died in 1849. Alley is 65 years old. At this age, she was born in about 1785, in the range reported by Headley in the genealogy above. 1850 Federal Census, Cherokee County, Alabama, 11 July, District 27, page ?, Hse/Fam #858 Alley Green 63 F No Occupation $No Real Estate Value b SC (b abt 1787) Polly Green 42 F b SC (b abt 1808) Betsy Green 22 F b Georgia (b abt 1828) Nelly Green 7 F b Georgia (b abt 1843)

She should be about 80 years old. 1850 Federal Census, Rutherford County, North Carolina, 29 August, Fox Squirrel District, Hse #972, Fam #996 Nancy A Green 70 F No Real Estate value reported b NC [b abt 1780] A genealogy reports that Henry was married twice, first to a woman in Pennsylvania, who died in 1836, when they were living in Ohio. There may have been some work-related reason for Henry to move from North Carolina to Pennsylvania, then after marrying there, move on to neighboring Ohio. But this seems a bit far-fetched. No documentation is offered in this genealogy. If this scenario is correct, it would mean that he moved back to his home area, Rutherford County, North Carolina, after 1836, then married Mary, the person we know as his primary wife, and died in 1850 (also reported by genealogies, but undocumented so far). But I have found no documentation to tie our Henry Green to this Pennsylvania and Ohio scenario. Details are lacking, but it appears that Henry and Mary had at least one son. It appears that Lucinda Green in their household is their widowed daughter-n-law, and Willis their grandson,Lucinda's son. But if they did not marry until after Henry's first wife died in 1836, the oldest child they could have would be less than 15 years old. Maybe Lucinda is the wife of one of Henry's brothers? Maybe the Ballard genealogy has the matter wrong bout the first wife in Pennsylvania? But the likelihood that two families have been mixed here is further indicated in the genelaogy, which reports that Henry Green died in Ohio in 1850, but is in the 1850 census in Rutherford County, North Carolina, in 1850, and is married to Mary. So these are two different Henry Greens that have been welded together. The weld seams attempting to merge these two individuals and famllies are not holding.

The first census in which I found Isaac Green was the 1850 census. I found Isaac Green with the right dates, birth places and initial of the wife's name to indicate this is Isaac Green the son of Daniel John Green, son of Isaac Green. We knew they moved to Hall County, Georgia, and this family information documents that. Since this census gives us only the initials of all but the head of the household, it is not very helpful with the names of Isaac and Matilda's children. But the ages might serve as clues to further sources. The enumerator's letters ar formed in odd ways, and some different ones look very similar. The second chdl looks liek I M, but it is probably meant to be J M, which matches James M in the list of children found above and in other sources. 1850 Federal Census, Hall County, Georgia, 21 August, page 707 (scan page 353), Hse/Fam #83 Isaac Green 49 M Farmer $750 Real Estate b South Carolina [b abt 1801] M Green 42 F South Carolina Cannot read or write [b abt 1808, matches wife Matilda Jackson] W J Green 17 M Laborer Georgia [unmatched in family genealogy lists of children, oldest child reported as Tyree] J M Green 17 M Laborer Georgia [close to James M, but initial looks like I instead of J] T R Green 14 F Georgia [possibly Frances L Green] T B Green 12 M Laborer Georgia [matches Thomas Benton] M E Green 10 F Georgia [known only by initials] A Green 7 F Georgia [Armilda] D O Green 6 M Georgia [D Oliver or Oliver D] Leroy McCutchin 2 M b Georgia [last name appears to be Green, McCutchin middle name] Initials are hard to distinguish in this enumerator's hand. We find an interesting additional person in the 2-year-old Leroy McCutchin. In genealogies and the 1860 census, we see that this child have McCutchin as a middle name and is the son of Isaac and Matilda. Next door is an older Daniel Green, age 69, who has been determined to be Isaac's father. The second person listed here is also 69 and has the initial M, which matches the listing in some family genealogies which tell us Daniel John Green's wife was named M Unknown. With only initials, I cannot easily tell who the other persons are in Daniel's household. 1850 Federal Census, Hall County, Georgia, 21 August, page 707 (scan page 353), Hse/Fam #84 Daniel Green 69 M Farmer $800 Real Estate b South Carolina M Green 69 F South Carolina Cannot read or write F Green 65 F South Carolina C Green 2 M Georgia 1860 Federal Census, Hall County, Georgia, 2 June, page 5, Hse #41, Fam #36 Isaac Green 59 M Farmer $1000 Real Estate $1000 Personal b South Carolina [b abt 1801] Matilda Green 51 F South Carolina Cannot read or write [b abt 1809] M E Green 20 F Georgia [b abt 1840] Armilda Green 17 F Georgia [b abt 1843] Oliver Green 14 M b Georgia [b abt 1846] L M Green 12 F Georgia [b abt 1848] We now have the name of Armilda, listed as only A in 1850. Family Data Collection - Individual Records Isaac Green Spouse Green Rebecca Parents Sampson John Mary Birth 1 Sep 1721 Baltimore, MD Marriage Date 1741 Death Date 24 Jun 1800 Information for the father of Meshack Green is confused in the sources. The date of 1721 was for an Isaac Green in Baltimore, but this is too late to be the father of Meshack born in 1720. That date in 1721 was originally the date for William, based on a genealogy from a cousin, Glenda Pool. She had mainly gathered information from disparate sources. When I analyzed the details and options, and compared with other sources, the conflicts were difficult to resolve. The working reference was the date of birth Glenda had for Meshack, which seemed reasonable at Abt 1720. Glenda had the 1721 date for Meshack's father, but had his name as William. There were also generational gaps in this and other sources. I have not yet found a William that will match. The Isaac in several genealogies, with the 1721 birth date, matches in some ways, but this has to be a different Isaac, due to the birth dates of not only Meshack but other children that seem to be from this same family. There are several Green families with children names Shadrack (Shadrick, etc.), Meshack and Abednego. It appears that our Meshack's father was Isaac, and he might still be from the Greens of Baltimore, but the details are still unclear. His father may have been in the group that had already moved to the Carolinas. The children I include here may represent two different families. There were several Greens with similar names in the eastern states in the 1700s. Many Shadrack Greens with various spellings, several Isaacs and Thomases, and a few Meshacks. I have only run across this one Abednego, said by sources to be the son of either a William, a Thomas or an Isaac Green(e). The reconstruction of these families is all over the map in the various resources. I have found uncertainty, no detail and no commentary on the father of Shadrack, Meshack and Abednego and their supposed brother Thomas. One somewhat credible genealogy in One World Tree (Ancestry.com) names their father Isaac. In this genealogy, there is no name of William in these generations. I note that Glenda Pool says the name might by Thomas. A Thomas of the proper age and relationship is also not found in the more extensive genealogies. The early OWT genealogies have some problems but report a long line back to England in this Green lineage. The OWT set provides names of some other siblings besides the four reported by Glenda Pool in the initial information I received on this generation of Greens. I am working with others on verification research to clarify this line and these 1700s generations. The dates of birth and death given by Glenda Pool for Meshack W Green, son of William Green, are very close to those provided for Isaac Green, father of Meshack, and his brothers Shadrack, Abednego and Thomas in OWT. Since she has the will of Meshack, his death date in 1799 seems correct. But the birth date may be that of Meshack reported in OWT as the son of Isaac. After wrestling with these problems a long time, I detached Meshack W Green form this line, and have not confirmed any relationship to this line that leads to an extensive establishment of Greens in Cleveland County, North Carolina, and the surrounding area. These Greens are strongly associated with and intermarried with the McSwains and other related families there over a long period of time up to the present day. (These are related to my wife's Arkansas and Texas McSwains.) Isaac Green is documented in Frederick County, Maryland, a bit northwest of Washington, DC, in the 1776 census. Maryland, Compiled Census and Census Substitutes Index, 1772-1890 Isaac Green Frederick County, Frederick Co. Hundred Township, MD 1776 Database: MD Early Census Index One discrepancy is that the OWT that reports so much detail and gives Isaac as the father lacks Thomas as a son. Glenda Pool reported a child named Thomas as a son of her William, father of Shadrack, Meshack and Abednigo. But there was no information like dates or places. This may be the misplaced son of Shadrack (b 1800) born in 1848, as reported by OWT sources. One genealogy reports only the son Shadrick, but has some information on Isaac and his parents I found more specific details on an Isaac Green who appears to match our Isaac, in a genealogy of the Wilhelm Family, but no source information is provided in this genealogy. Isaac Green born 1 September 1721 Baltimore, Maryland died 24 June 1800 also in Baltimore His wife is unnamed here, and one son is reported as Shadrick Green, born 1747 and died in 1820. Isaac is reported as the son of John Green and Mary Sampson. John is reported as also born in Baltimore in 1698 and dying there 3 December 1720. But this John Green is reported as the child of Robert Green and Susannah Vernon. Isaac's son Shadrack is reported in some genealogies as born in 1747, as noted above, and his son Isaac as born in 1742. But in his will, Isaac refers to Shadrack as his eldest son. Other reports place the birth date of Shadrack in 1830. But in this case, his father Isaac's marriage to Rebecca was in 1741, which presents another problem. I have found nor information about an earlier wife for Isaac, and if he was born in 1721, we might expect him to marry about 1840 or so, after the 1830 date. Even record compilations are confused, and we have not been able to resolve this conundrum. It does seem more likely Rebecca was the mother of Shadrack and he was born some time after 1740, but the will indicates he definitely was the first born, so it is not likely that Isaac was born in 1742 as commonly reported. The age of the daughter Hannah also puts her birth at about 1742. So there are many discrepancies. There are several lines of Greens with very similar names and dates. I have found that individuals from these various lines are mixed in some genealogies. I have had trouble sorting out the lines and am uncertain about some of the individuals in the Greens here in this era of history. -- M Wilhelm, Wilhelm Family Tree, http://trees.ancestry.com/pt/person.aspx?pid=-1756007493&tid=1130695&ssrc= Another record specifies the parish church where Isaac's birth was registered.
