---------------- Sarah Webb b. ca. 1812 who married William Kirk. She fits into the 1820 census listing of Giles household. Someone related oral tradition that she was born in Giles County, which might refer instead to her father. Anyway I doubt I will find any other evidence, but she clearly was married to William as his second wife in the vicinity of Coal River between 1830 and 1832. I went through all the other Sarah Webbs from Giles County vicinity and they each married other men. I also read the story about travel to Indiana - incredible if true - but it seems strange to move back with land more available to the west. In earlier times some settlers moved back east due to the Indian threat. I have a few other ancestors (David King Perdue, Samson Robinette, etc) that moved about a lot as Giles Webb did. -- Curt Milton, email to Orville Boyd Jenkins, 31 December 2016 ---------------- "The Coal River is a tributary of the Kanawha River in southern West Virginia. It is formed near the community of Alum Creek by the confluence of the Big and Little Coal Rivers, and flows generally northward through western Kanawha County, past the community of Upper Falls and into the Kanawha River at St. Albans. ... The Big Coal River rises in Raleigh County as two streams, the Clear Fork and the Marsh Fork, which join near Whitesville. The river then flows generally northwest through Boone County, past the towns of Sylvester, Seth and Racine. ... The Little Coal River also rises as two streams, the Spruce Fork in Logan County and the Pond Fork in Boone County. They meet at Madison in Boone County and the river then flows generally northward, past the towns of Danville and Julian." -- Coal River (West Virginia), Wikipedia, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coal_River_(West_Virginia) It appears to be Sarah and William reported in the 1880 census in Kanawha, West Virginia. 1880 Federal Census, Kanawha County, West Virginia, 11 June, Cabin Creek District, District 48, page 28, Hse/Fam #238 Kirk, William W M 86 Head Married (No Occup) VA VA VA [b abt 1794] Kirk, Sarah M W F 68 Wife Married Keeping WV WV WV [b abt 1812] Kirk, Wilson W M 28 Son Coal Miner WV WV WV [b abt 1867]

We do not know the full name of Jorile (Jorial) Barnett's first wife. She is reported in the 1840 census, but names of individuals other than the head of household were not reported. We find Jorile and his first wife with their family in Cherokee County, North Carolina in the 1840 census. 1840 Federal Census, Cherokee County, North Carolina Joriael Barnett MALES: 1 under 5 (William?), 3 between 5-10 (James, John, Thomas), 1 30-40 (Jorile/Jorial) FEMALES: 1 under 5, (Evaline), 1 5-10 (??); 1 10-15 (Nancy), and 1 30-40 (1st wife) There is an additional female child here, aged between 5 and 10, whom we do not see later. This is probably a child who died before the 1850 census. Working with another Barnett researcher, Nadene Snyder, I discovered that the first name of Jorile's first wife was Nancy. Nadene found a church record, minutes form the Hanging Dog Baptist Church in Cherokee County, North Carolina, which reported that the church received Jorial and Nancy Barnett as members on 8 June 1844, just one month after the church had been organized. This would be Jorial's first wife. His second wife's name was also unknown until 13 June 2008, when I found a note in a genealogy discussion list from Barbara Stevens. She reported that the name of Jorile's second wife was Nancy Powell, and they married about 1848. This Nancy Powell. I had already found the Hanging Dog Church records, which reported that a Nancy Powell had joined that church in November 1844. Then I knew that the Nancy who joined the church the same day as Jorile was his first wife, meaning both his first and his second wife were named Nancy. Jorile married Nancy Powell in October 1848. So Nancydied before that time. Tennessee State Marriages, 1780-2002, page 78, entry 226 Name: Jorial Barnett Spouse: Nancy Powell Marriage 27 Oct 1848, Monroe County, Tennessee -- http://www.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=1169&enc=1 With this marriage record, we know his first wife died before October 1848. The 1850 census, along with the information from the church records, tells us that Jorile and his first wife lived in North Carolina, and he met his second wife in the same church. That 1850 census gives us the names of all the children who survived to that point. In 1850, Jorile and his second wife are just over the border in Monroe County, Tennessee. From the marriage record above, we learned the Nancy here is Nancy Powell. 1850 Federal Census, Monroe County, Tennessee, 12 November, 14th Civil District, page 229 (scan 115), Hse/Fam #1608 Jariel [Jorial or Jorile] Barnett 42 M Farmer $600 Real Estate. $200 Personal b SC Nancy Barnett 25 b SC [second wife, Nancy Powell] James Barnett 18 b NC -- page 230 -- John Barnett 15 b NC Thomas Barnett 15 b NC Evaline Barnett 12 b NC William Barnett 10 b NC Frances Barnett 8 b NC Isabell Barnett 6 b NC Zachary Tailor Barnett 9mos M b NC [b Jan-Feb 1850] Additionally, after finding the marriage information for Nancy Powell, we know that Zachary Taylor Barnett here is the son of Nancy Powell, not Jorile's first wife Nancy. Because Zachary is reported here as 9 months old, we know he was born in either January or February (census was in November 1850). Since Jorile married Nancy Powell in October 1848, He is definitely Nancy Powell's son. The other children shown in the 1850 census are the children of Jorile's first wife Nancy. One genealogy reports Jorile's first wife with the same children and marriage place and date as Ophelia. This may indicate that her full name was Nancy Ophelia. This genealogy, however, like others, has no details or source information and no information on her parents. The name Ophelia may be a middle name or an error by that compiler. Ophelia Birth 1810 in Ill, Death BEF 1844 in Cherokee, North Carolina Marriage to Jorial R Barnett 1829 Maco, North Carolina -- Barnett, http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/5784840/person/-1395160656 This source reports the same children, all born in North Carolina, as other sources report for the known first wife Nancy. But though this source reports all her chidlren as born in North Carolina, it reports that Ophelia was born in Illinois. This is extremely unlikely, since there is no record or indication that Jorile was never in Illinois until after the death of his second wife, Nancy Powell in Tennessee. Like most genealogies no source is given.

Estimated Age 18 (Known Birth Date 23 July 1974) Coyote 1964 Yearbook Wichita Falls High School, Wichita Falls, Texas, USA The following wedding announcement is from the bulletin of First Primitive Baptist Church, Wichita Falls, Texas, January, year unknown. "You are invited to the wedding of Sherri Marchbank and Berl Welch. The wedding will be held at the church Saturday night, January 26 [no year stated]. A reception will be held in the fellowship hall. "Elder and Mrs B J Welch." Berl Welch is the son of Berley Jackson Welch and Treasure McElhannon Welch. The format and fragments on the reverse seemed to indicate this announcement was cut out of the bulletin of Elder B J (Berley) Welch's church, first thought to be his known pastorate at First Primitive Baptist Church, Wichita Falls, Texas. The date would have been on the header of this issue, but is not in the cutout segment. But the location is reported in Texas marriage records as Dallas. -- Cutout was found among other similar papers and articles in the home of Lou Ila Jenkins, cousin of Berley Welch, in Lindsay, Oklahoma, after she had moved to Arlington, Texas in May 2019. However, the Texas marriage Index reports that Berl and Shari were married in Dallas, Texas, not Wichita Falls. Perhaps Berley had moved to a church in the Dallas area by that time. Note also that Shari's name is spelled differently in the church bulletin announcement. The date matches the day's date announced in the church bulletin. Our family did not have info on Berley's birth place. Berley's obituary says he was born 29 October 1919 in Bailey, Oklahoma. This town was in Grady County, whose county seat is Chickasha. Berley and his family lived about 80 miles east of us at Wichita Falls, Texas. He was a Primitive Baptist pastor. I remember visiting them on occasion, and we could see the church from Highway 287. I remember being in a service in the church in Wichita Falls, on at least one occasion. Berley and his wife Treasure had twin sons and a daughter. The sons were called "Burl" and "Jurl." I never knew how they spelled the names, but I saw the names when I found Berley's obituary on Find a Grave 20 June 2014. They were Berl and Jerl. I remember only one daughter, but the obit reports two, Betty Fern Welch and Linda Trey Bowers. -- OBJ ------------------- "You are invited to the wedding of Sherri Marchbank and Berl Welch.
