    Funeral for Ret. Master Sergeant Bazil W. Handy, 79, Lawton, will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday in the Trinity Baptist Church with Gene Escoe, pastor, officiating.

    Sergeant Handy died Tuesday, June 17, 2008, in Lawton.

    Burial with military honors will be in the Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home.

    He was born on March 28, 1929, in Ada, to Bazil W. Handy Sr. and Gertrude T. Philpot. He grew up in Quanah, Texas. He married Willene Best on Nov. 30, 1951, in Charleston, Ark. He served 23 years in the Army and retired on Aug. 31, 1970. After his retirement, he attended Cameron University and received his Bachelor's Degree. He then attended Southwestern University in Weatherford and received his Master's Degree. He worked at various schools until his retirement. He worked as a sentinel for the Lawton Police Department. He was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church, where he was a deacon.

    Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law: Ken and Susan Handy and Stephen and Suzan Handy, all of Lawton; six grandchildren and their spouses: Billy Handy, Lawton; Kenny and Jennifer Handy, Bartlesville; Katherine and Elizabeth Handy, both of Lawton; Paul S. Harrop, Oklahoma City, and Seth Harrop, Lawton; two great-grandchildren: Taylor and Kyle Handy and a niece, Georgiana Handy, Conway, Mo.

    He was preceded in death by a son, Billy W. Handy; a daughter, Carolyn Harrop; a grandson, Jason Handy and three brothers.
