"Tax records for 1846 show that T W (Thomas Walter) Quaid was a resident of New Salem in Rusk County. ... T W and his wife Emily Moore came from Brownsville, Mississippi, Lafayette County. Upon arriving in Texas, they had four children with them: Benjamin Walter, Elihu (Eli Hugh), William Riley and Simpson.

James Glenn "Jack" Quaid
Birth Dec. 5, 1919 Como, Hopkins County, Texas
Death Aug. 4, 2008 Wardville, Atoka County, Oklahoma
He was the son of Edgar Garland and Cenis May "Mabel" (Forkner) Quaid. He attended schools at Coalgate East Side, Coal Hill, Cottonwood, and Ashland where in graduated in 1939. He married Christine Bailey on June 23, 1945, at First Baptist Church in Atoka. He was a member of Kiowa Baptist Church.
His father preceded him in death when he was 13 months old, and he and his mother moved to Oklahoma. She later married Tom McGraw. In the early 40s he supervised a group of women called the EGG BEATERS at the Denison Poultry and egg plant. He grew up in the Coalgate, Cottonwood and Ashland areas. In January of 1940, he went to work for the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in road construction, but changed jobs with the CCC and became proficient in woodworking by June 1941. This is where he learned the carpentry trade which served him well for many years.
Other jobs he held included working for Globe Aircraft in Fort Worth, Texas in 1943. He worked on the Beech AT-10 "Wichita" as a wood fabrication worker. The Wichita was made entirely of wood and he enjoyed sharing stories about it with his friends and family.
He worked as a boiler mechanic for Shamrock Oil and Gas at the McKerr Plant in Sunray, Texas, worked at the Naval Ammunition Depots at Hastings, Neb. and McAlester; he built many houses in the southeast Oklahoma area, he retired from the state of Oklahoma, Department of Human Services Maintenance Branch as a carpenter supervisor in 1982, after approximately 14 years of service. In addition to being a carpenter, he always had a love of ranching and raising cattle.
He loved being around people, playing dominoes (moon), going to dances, and always had a story to tell. He was preceded in death by this parents, Edgar Garland and Cenis May" Mabel" (Forkner) Quaid; brothers, Odis Quaid, and James McGraw, and son, James Glenn Quaid Jr.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at Kiowa Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Russell, and granddaughter, Jaclyn Cosgrove, officiating. Music will be provided by Eddie Quaid. Burial will be at Wardville Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brown's Funeral Service of Coalgate.
