    Jack's sister Mattie Kathryn Gregory Burnette's obituary refers to him as Sammy, one of her surviving brothers.  On Jack's Find a Grave memorial his nickname is given as Sam.

    Jack Vance “Sam” Gregory, age 92, of Caryville, formerly of Lenoir City, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2016.

    He was a 32nd Degree Master Mason with the Sweetwater Masonic Lodge.

    A veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II, he was a Normandy survivor, a recipient of 4 battel stars.

    An avid member of the Smokey Mountain Hiking Club, and he loved square dancing. Retired from the Lenoir City Utilities Board after many years of service.

    He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grand father.

    Preceded in death by his parents Lester and Zella Gregory, sisters Eleanor Pearson, Louise Rogers, Mattie Kathryn Burnette, brother: David Gregory.

    Survivors include the mother of his children Joyce Gray Gregory, of Louisville, KY., daughters and son-in-law Janice and Jerry Vaughan, Caryville, TN., Jill Gregory Waits, of Louisville, KY., Grandchildren Halley Marie Seely, of Louisville, KY., Catherine and spouse Jack Allen, of Lexington, KY., Madelyn Claire Waits, of Louisville, KY., great-granddaughter Lila Gray Allen, of Lexington, KY., sisters Gladys Turner, of Atlanta, GA., Edrys Ashman, of Hickory, NC., Claudia Emert, of Maryville, TN., brother Raymond Gregory, of Maryville, TN., several nieces and nephews.

    The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Kyker Funeral Homes, Sweetwater, from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. with a graveside service to follow in the Sweetwater Memorial Park with full military honors to be provided by members of the Sweetwater V.F.W. Gold Star Post # 5156 and members of the Monroe County Disabled American Veterans Chapter # 93, and members of the Sweetwater American Legions Post # 106 with Rev. David Largen officiating.

    In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Smokey Mountain Hiking Club, P.O. Box 51592, Knoxville, TN 37950. Kyker Funeral Homes, Sweetwater, in charge of arrangements. Thanks to David Edgmon (#48064195) for parent's links.
