In the 1870 census Ellen is reported as the wife of Stephen Winter in Grayson County, Texas. Ellen was born in Alabama, and in the 1880 census, her daughter Lucy Belle's census record reports that Ellen's first husband (Lucy's father) was born in Tennessee, as was Stephen Winter. Lucy's death certificate, though, reports her father was born in Louisiana. But it also says she was, and this does not fit the records and to ther family residence information.
Further, Lucy Belle and two sisters were all reported with the surname of Winter also. But It may also be that the enumerator just wrote the stepchildren's name as Winter without enquiring further.
