• In her sparsely detailed Gregory genealogy, Carolyn Cooper lists several children of Richard Gregory and Dorcas Fishback.  Some seem questionable, but one she lists as George could match a George W Gregory reported in the 1840 census for Jefferson County, Tennessee.
  
  George is one of three Gregorys listed on the same page, along with other heads of families of names known to be related thorugh marriage to the family of James Henry Gregory.  George was reported to be aged between 20 and 30 in 1840.  We can estimate he was born in about 1815.  Too few details are known to be sure.
  
  If George was a son of Richard Gregory, and born about 1815, he would have been a son of Richard's first wife, Lucretia Jones.  Since his birth date in reported in the 1840 census only in a range of age 20-30, he could have been born closer to 1820.  Richard Gregory married his second wife Dorcas Fishback in 1817.

  In 1840, three Gregory households were enumerated side by side in Jefferson County.  With George there was Few H Gregory, who is also thought to be a son of Richard, Gregory, and another George, aged 60-70, or born about 1870-1880.  The younger George W may be a brother of Few, but the identity of the older George is more difficult to determine.  Some report the father of Richard as George W Gregory.

  Carolyn Cooper's genealogy reports Richard's father as George Washington Gregory, and she reports a brother of Few H Gregory named George, who matches the elder George reported in the 1840 census.  This configuration seems to be a good working pattern for this family.

  Aged 39 years, 2 months, 27 days at his death. He died 7 years to the day of his first wife who died Sept. 17, 1850.
  He married Margaret Mitchell on Dec. 6, 1843 in Pike County, Illinois. After her death in 1850, he married Mary E. Stone on Nov. 9, 1856 in Pike County, Missouri.
  
  Known children with Margaret Mitchell:
  
  1.) Angeline Gregory b. 1844 married George Skidmore on Dec. 18, 1862 in Pike County, Illinois. She appears to have died between 1880-1900 based on census records. Her husband, George Skidmore died in 1910, probably in Placer County, California.
  
  2.) Susan Gregory b. Feb. 6, 1847 married William Henry Ward on Jan. 15, 1863 in Pike County, Illinois. Susan died March 17, 1868 and is buried next to her mother, Margaret, at Sapp Cemetery. William Henry Ward re-married Elvira Sternes and is buried at Hunter/Nebo Cemetery in Nebo, Pike County, Illinois.
  
  Known child with Mary E. Stone:
  George W Gregory Jr. b. August 30, 1857 and married Esther Anna Woodworth on Dec. 1, 1886 in Pike County, Illinois. George W. Gregory Jr. died on March 31, 1899 and is buried at New Venable Cemetery, Near Pleasant Hill, Pike County, Illinois
