  The wife here is listed by what family sources give us as her middle name.  Elizabeth F is known as Frances Elizabeth from other sources.  The place of birth of Elizabeth's father is interesting.  Alsace-Lorraine is a large province now part of France.  This province was and to some extent still is a German-speaking province.  I have met German-speaking French citizens from Alsace-Lorraine.  This Province had shifted back and forth between the French and German powers in the course of the incessant European wars.  Previous census reports had reported Peter Thomas as born in Prussia.  Prussia was the German State which had created the then-current German Empire.  We had no definite point of origin for the Thomas family.
