Notes

  • It was frustrating trying to get info on this family unit, because the (Anglo) enumerator misspelled the last name as Vara.  Some fishing trips through search engines and false trails turned up the actual name, the common Spanish name Vera.

Gadalupe and her two children were ina large extended family household in Kansas City, Missouri, for the 1930 census.  Her husband was not reproted in this census, but Lupe was reproted as married.  Besides tha, this son of Lupe was reproted as Adolph Vara.  Two genealogies with no documentatoin hd his name as Rudolph, and the last name as Vera, which matched Lupe's burial info, which had in the meantime been found.

    Obituary:

Rudy Vera Sr. returned peacefully to his heavenly home at the age of 94 on May 5, 2018 to join his beloved wife Alvina Reyna Vera. His devotion and his love for his family will forever be in our hearts.

His smile and kindness towards anyone he met are a blessing and legacy to leave to his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

He was born on August 23, 1923 in Kansas City, Missouri. Preceded in death by his parents Juan Vera and Guadalupe Trevino. Also, preceded in death by his sister Angelina (Mina) Kinson. Rudy served in the US Navy from 1941-1945 on the USS San Jacinto, USS Biscayne, USS Santee. He met and married the love of his life, Alvina Reyna on December 7, 1946 and was happily married for 67 years.

He was an avid sports fan and loved all Bay Area teams but was partial to the Oakland Athletics and Oakland Raiders. He enjoyed watching his grandsons play baseball and soccer. If he wasn’t at the field he enjoyed watching the videos and looking at photos. He absolutely, loved golfing. He spent quite a bit of time golfing with his buddies, sons and grandsons. He had 3 Hole in One’s at Mission Hills in Hayward. Two of those were recorded ( 7-13-10 #7 & 6-17-14 #9) and placed on a plaque, hanging at the golf course. He enjoyed sitting outside, sipping on a Budweiser, listening to music and wave to people that passed by. Words cannot describe how much he loved his family, and the joy to see his grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought a smile to his face always. His beautiful eyes, smile and witty sense of humor will always be remembered.

Visitation will be on Thursday May 10 from 5-8PM, with a vigil service at 6:30PM at Fremont Memorial Chapel, 3723 Peralta Blvd. Funeral Mass will be on Friday, May 11 at 10AM at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, 703 C Street Union City. Deep in our hearts you’ll always stay, loved and missed every day.
