Notes

  • In the 1900 census Henry was enumerated twice In the following record, Henry is reported in the household of his maternal grandparents, in Parker County, Texas.

    1900 Federal Census, Parker County, Texas, 5 June, Precinct 3, District 64, page 2B, Hse/Fam #38
Henry Tate 50 W M May 1826  74 Married 9 yrs GA GA SC  Farmer
Martha L Tate Wife W M [sic, should be F] Sept 1840  50  Married 9 yrs 0 children AL VA NC
Bullard, Henry grandson W M Sept 1892  7  TX TX TX

Henry is here reported as born in September 1892, as in his second enumeration in the home of his mother and stepfather below.  But his father Nathan Bullard died in 1890.  If Henry was born in 1892, he was born out of wedlock.  This same address, reported by the 1900 census in two records, is also the birth date reported in Henry's death certificate.  However, in his WWI registration below, we see that Henry himself reported his birth year as 1893.

Henry is reported again a few days later in his own parents' household, with similar vital statistics.  The birth state of his parents are Texas, whereas in the second record both are reported as born in Illinois.

The date of 7 September 1892 is reported on his death certificate and gravestone.  His death certificate reports he is the son of Bud Bullard, which genealogies reported as a nickname for Nathan Bullard, first husband of Martha Ann Tate.  The date of death on Nathan "Bud" Bullard's gravestone is 31 July 1890.  There is an error somewhere in family records.

Another anomaly is that his WWI Registration states that he was born in Stephenville, Erath County, Texas, while his death certificate says he was born in Parker County, with no city mentioned.  The informant for the information on his death certificate is Mitch Bullard, Henry's son.  I assume Henry himself provided the information on his WWI registration card.  Thus I am following Henry's report of birth in Stephenville, Texas.
