Notes
- The place of brith reported in some genealogies for Thomas is very interesting. They say he was born in Norton, Oxfordshire. This may be a confusion of the town of Chipping Norton in western Oxfordshire with Greene's Norton, in Northamptonshire. The Greenes are associated with a town called Greene's Norton, or Greens Norton, so-called because the whole town was sold to a Greene ancestor in the 1300s.
"In medieval times, the village was known a simply 'Norton' and was a royal domain of Edward the Confessor and later William the Conqueror. In the 14th century the whole village was sold to Sir Henry Greene for a total of 20 shillings hence the name Greene's Norton, which today is reduced to just Greens Norton."
