- Bailey's name and his father's are sometimes spelled Baily in public records. Family sources consistently spell the name Bailey. There were earlier Baileys in this lineage, one participating in the Revolutionary War. We find both spellings from that early time.

Bailey and his two brothers Benjamin Franklin and Nathan Morris fought in the Mississippi Confederate forces. Bailey was captured by the Union twice. His regiment surrendered and was paroled at Vicksburg in July 1863.
