In 1880 newly married Edward Ross is enumerated as Ross, with his wife Barbara, in the home of his mother Mary (Rippy) McSwain. Mary is reported as married, but there is no husband in the home. Edward's father Berry Hicks McSwain died in the 1864 in the Civil War. Ross's wife is Barbara Rippy.

In 1900 Edward is enumerated as Neddie. His wife is reported as Mary M, instead of Barbara Ann, though it reports they have been married 20 years. That would put their marriage at about 1880. In the 1800 census, bis wife was Barbara as reported by family genealogies.
Genealogies report that Barbara died in 1898, so we would expect Neddie to have a different wife in 1900. The enumerator must have erred on the years married, somehow out of their discussion referencing Neddie's first marriage to Barbara.
Neddie is reported with the same wife Mary M in 1910. Initially I did not find this second wife accounted for in the genealogies. Some now have this wife, and name her Mary Putnam. With this surname, I found her with her parents and siblings in Rippys Township in 1880. See Notes for Mary M Putnam.

The names are very scrawled, and the names of Mamie and Barney have been preceived different ways by different transcribers. In the 1910 census Ancestry transcribed Barnie's name as Bermen. It looks more like Bonner or Barnes to me. The entries in the 1910 census are scrawled and hard to determine. In the 1920 census it is clearly Barney.
