Before the 1910 census, Thomas will marry Lula's daughter Junie Trotter, whose father was Lula's first husband John R Trotter, and they will be living in her mother's home. Thomas' parents are still a couple of doors away in the 1910 census. June and Thomas appear to have just married.

Thomas' father (Robert Garland) was born in Tennessee and mother (Josephine Unknown [McSwain]) in Mississippi. On the 1900 Census, he was listed as a farmer in Emmet, Arkansas living with his parents. On the 1910 Census, he was listed as a merchant in Emmet, Arkansas living with his father-in-law Charles McSwain and wife Junie. The Emmet Mercantile was the selling agent for the Emmet Truck Growers Association, which he was President and General Manager of the Truck Growers Association. On the 1920 Census, he was listed as a general store merchant in Emmet, Arkansas with his wife Junie, two sons, mother-in-law Lula, and Lula's son Charles.
