Gladys Garot, 87, passed away April 25, 2006, in Placerville, Calif.

Gladys A. (Barnhart) Garot was born May 2, 1918, in Wenatchee, Wash., to Al and Carrie Barnhart.

She married Otto Garot in 1937, and they moved to Bremerton, Wash., where they raised their family.

Gladys worked for many years as a nurse in the Bremerton Hospital, and as a charge nurse in a senior care facility.

She was active in the Free Methodist Church as a teacher, teen advisor and Sunday school superintendent.

After retiring in 1968, Gladys and Otto settled in Rancho Cordova, Calif., where Gladys worked at her younger daughter's daycare center as cook, nurse and payroll clerk. She also served the Rancho Cordova Senior Center (1983-1989) first as a volunteer and then as president. While there, Gladys was recognized for her efforts in helping to establish the "Meals on Wheels" program. In 1996 Gladys moved to Placerville, Calif., where she attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

She is survived by sons Gene Garot, of Kent, Wash., and Leon Garot, of Glenwood Springs; daughters Ruth Renberg, of Sun City West, Ariz., and Mary Dohnke, of Diamond Springs, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister Betty Barnhart Morris, of LaVerne, Calif.; and brothers Chuck Barnhart, of East Wenatchee, Wash., Bob Barnhart, of Pahrump, Nev., and Floyd Barnhart, of Auburn, Calif.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, and brother Russell Barnhart.

The family will hold a private memorial service for Gladys and requests that friends remember her by spending time with their own loved ones, as Gladys' greatest joy in life was being with her family.
