  Jana, who has some helpful details on this Jenkins family, gives us some info to fill in gaps from the records.  This includes the maiden name of James' wife, Bernice Trussell.  The Trussell family shows up in several households in the vacinity of Jenins households.  Assuming that Jana has the correct name from family sources, when we see the 1940 census, where James' wife is reported as Bernice, that the enumerator in 1930 misheard Bernice's name (Bernie) as Vernie.

  Jana's family information matched what I had found in the 1940 census, where James' wife is reported as Bernice, and her father George Trussell is in their home.
