She was apparently previously married to a Jones, as there are two Jones children now in the household of Jacob and Sarah Pentecost.  The 1870 census does not record the relationships of the household members, but in the 1880 census we are told that the Jones children are stepchildren of Jacob, confirming the previous married name of Sarah E Jones.  As of October 2008, I have not determined the maiden name of either Nancy or Sarah E.

Jacob and Sarah appear to be in the same location for the 1880 census.  Sarah's two Jones children are still in the household.

Note that stepson William B Jones matches Henry B Jones of the 1870 census.  Perhaps this person's name was William Henry or Henry William.  Or the enumerator in 1870 made an error?  It is not clear who the 6-year-old Pinckney Bradly is.

I had a helpful note in April 2012 from researcher Ronald Conrad, providing some other details and referring me to the memorial he had constructed for Jacob on FInd A Grave.  Along with Civil War records, Ron had discovered Jacob's grave in Desha County, Arkansas, and repaired the damaged gravestone.

"If you go to findagrave.com Jacob Pentecost memorial #88770601, wife Nancy mem .#88756338. They are buried in Scott cemetery, Desha County Arkansas. found his headstone broken, i repaired, as the picture will show, i was unable to read birth and death, but did find where he signed the amnesty agreement after the war. Typed in what i found. was in records of Desha county. thought this might help. Ron"
