  The birth date is July 1882, confirmed by the Social Security Death index as 17 Jul 1882.  This date appears on the California Death certificate, and on Ward's draft registrations.
  
  In 1910, Ward is reported as the Head of his household after his father passed away.  He and several single siblings are in the household and his widowed mother is listed with him.

  Note that the last child was born in Indian Territory.  Her father died in Paul's Valley, Chickasaw Nation (now the County Seat of Gravin County).  Some of his children stayed there, but we see in the 1910 census that hsi wife and many of the children moved back to their old homeplace in Prentiss County, Mississippi.

  This funeral home record provides some interesting insights. Note the name of Ward's mother, Dexter Kemp, compared to the name as we know it, Mariah Elizabeth Kemp.  I know Dexter as a man's name, and have found no other record reflecting Dexter in his mother's name.  One genealogy has suggested the name was Poindexter as a middle or maiden name.  Her middle initial of P in the 1900 census matches this name.
  
  Also the last name is Kemp instead of Camp.  This is a common transposition made in the history of this set of names.  The 1880 census records her family's name as Camp.  The errors in the name are probably due to incomplete understanding by the informant, his daughter Hallie Philpot.
