The McSwains came to Arkansas from North Carolina about 1876, along with other relateives, named Padgett and Weathers.  In 1870 Catherine and son Phillip's family are found in one household in Giles County, Tennessee.  Other later residents of Prairie Township, Arkansas County, Arkansas, also lived in Giles County, such as the Butlers and Davidsons.  George and his wife Harriet were born in North Carolina.  Likewise all the brothers were born in North Carolina, and all their wives were except for William's wife, whom he married in Arkansas, and James, still unmarried at age 21 in the 1880 census.

I had not found any actual marriage records until November 2010, when coresearcher Stephen McBride found George and Harriet's marriage record.

Family History Library, Arkansas Marriage Records:

    Bride's Birthplace Not Stated
    Bride's Age 19
    Marriage Date 16 Apr 1876
    Marriage Place Arkansas County, Arkansas

Their first child Wiley was born in Arkansas, and is reported as 3 years old in June 1880.  The family knows his birth date to be 3 July 1877.  Other factors about the family situation and the record of marriage in Arkansas County, it appears they arrived in Arkansas sometime in early 1876.

George's brother William and his Arkansas-born wife Sarah had also been married about 3 years at the 1880 census, since their daughter Edna Earl was 2 years old.
