Notes

  • The family spells the name Noble, rather than Nobles, but the name appears both ways in various records.  Both the 1900 and 1910 censuses have it spelled Nobles.  Later censuses have it as Noble.

Birth dates in the 1900 census area years off from the actual dates from other sources, as often is the case in that census.

Note that Elizabeth was born in England as were both her parents.  The marriage information indicates that W E and Elizabeth married about 1884.  Albert R matches Richard A in 1900.  The age of Benjamin is a problem, since he is reported to be 11, but was not listed in the 1900 census.  He had to be born after 1900, since he is reported in every later census, but not in 1900.  His age varies as do many in that era.

In this census, the Noble family is living next door to Chester and Laduskey Cunningham.  Up to this point (February 2011) I did not know Laduskey's maiden name.  Laduskey's mother was born in England, but her father was born in Arkansas.  This suggests a relationship between Laduskey and Elizabeth.  Their entry in the 1900 census, which oddly I did not find until September 2012, has Ladusky listed, as daughter Dusky J Nobles, age 10.

The relationship is further confirmed when in the 1930 census we find that Jessie Cunningham is living with Charley and Owamie Noble's home.  Jessie is designated as Charley's niece.  Charley is W E and Elizabeth's son.  Her age and the birth place of her parents makes it likely that Laduskey is the daughter of Elizabeth and W E and the brother of Charley.  This also, then, provides Laduskey's last name, Noble.

In the 1920 census, We learn that W E's first name is William, entered as Will in the census record.  The names of the children are different, but can be matched up fairly well.

Noble, Billie Son M W 9 AR AR England [b abt Dec 1910]
Noble, Esther Dau F W 7 AR AR England [b abt Jun 1912]

Some of these names are different than we wexpect.  The child matching Charley in the 1910 census is named Mick here.  Carey appears with the name that looks like Duen.  The child that matches Morris has initials that appear to be E F.  How E F represents Morris (Maurice) Monroe, I cannot tell.

In 1920 living next door is an older son, A R, whose name appeared to be Albert in the 1910 census.

In 1930, their son Benjamin is divorced and living in the household.  The enumerator also reports that William's mother, as well as Elizabeth's, was born in England.  All other reports indicate she was born in Arkansas or Tennessee.
