Notes
- Some genealogies have a second name or nickname for Martha Jones, either Patsy or Patty, with no documentation or comment.
Some have confused the mother of Shadrack (b 1800), Mary Cage, with his stepmother Martha Jones. Only a few sources have the name of a wife of Shadrack (b 1760). Most of the children in this source for this wife Martha Jones match the children shown in other sources for the wife named Mary Cage. Each list has a couple that are not on the other list.
The list of children for Mary Gage in some sources lacks the son named Shadrack. Some sources seem to confuse this Shadrack with a Shadrack Greene born in Georgia in 1782.
The birth of Shadrack in the pretty commonly agreed year of 1800 is BETWEEN the births of other children definitely attributed to Mary Gage. Glenda Pool is the only source I have found that reports wife named Martha Jones. She does not state her source or the two wives' names.
Martha Jones, born 1773
died abt 1861
married Shadrack L Green
-- Glenda Pool, William Green Genealogy (private genealogy on paper, received through Green-Bearden family channels; based on Glenda's early personal research, no documentation provided
Little further information on Martha Jones is available, but she was also likely previously married, having been born in about 1773.
U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900
Martha Jones
Gender Female
Birth Year 1773
Spouse Name ??? Green
The date of marriage was probably abt 1802. This date is suggested by the gap in reported birth dates of Shadrack's children.
Mary Gage may have died after the birth of Joseph in 1897. Or it may have been after the birth of Shadrack Jr in 1801. Because of uncertainty due to confusion and conflicting reports among genealogies and few records to clarify, the gaps between births of the children suggest these two periods when Mary might have died and Shadrack could have married his other reported wife Martha Jones.
I suggest Mary Gage died after the birth of her son Shadrack, perhaps in childbirth, in about 1801 or 1802. I have no further information on Martha Jones, but she would also have been likely previously married, having been born in about 1773. She would be the mother of the other reported children of Shadrack Green. She would still be under 50 when the last reported child, Dicey or Dicea, was born in about 1817.
Martha Jones' place of death suggested by other family facts is Cleveland County, North Carolina. Few records have been found. No death or burial information has been found. Several undocumented genealogies report a date in 1861 for the death of Martha.
