Albert and Sarah appear with Sarah's other children in the 1900 census, but Albert's father William is absent.  They all three appear to be buried in the same grave, with one gravestone, in Mt Pleasant Cemetery, Ethel, Arkansas.

    The gravestone says:
"W W & Sarah McSwain and son Albert 1895-1904."  It appears William died in 1895; he is not in the 1900 census.  There is incomplete information on the joint gravestone.  The phrase "1895-1904" is ambiguous.  In the 1900 census, Albert is reported born in November 1879.  Perhaps the date of 1895 is the date of death of his parents.  The dates 1895-1904 could be a range of time for the three deaths.  The date of 1904 may refer only to Albert.

For a long time I could find nothing else about Albert McSwain.  I had found an Albert Lee McSwain, son of Lida/Lyda Cochran Criswell in a later census.  But I could never find information on Lida's McSwain husband.  Then in searching again in November 2011, I found a marriage record of Albert McSwain and Lida Cochran.

Albert married Lida Cochran in February 1904, and their son Albert Lee was born in 1905.  It is possible that Albert died soon after they married in 1904.  I have shown the date of 1904 as the date of death for both Albert and his mother Sarah.

This enabled me to make the connection to the McSwains.  I had an Albert McSwain, son of William W McSwain and Sarah Lowe, with no wife.  The general facts matched and the name of Lida's son confirmed that Albert was her first husband.

Albert's age in the marriage record indicates that Albert was born about 1880, or probably in 1879.  His reported birth date is November 1879.  Lyda's age indicates she was born in about 1886.  But the 1930 census reports that she was 15 at the time of her first marriage, and 43 at that census.  That would mean she was born about 1886, making a match, and married in 1902, a bit early.  Allowing for the general imprecision of ages reported in the censuses in that era, this seemed to be a match.

Lida was 24 in the 1910 census, and had been married about 4 years then.  Their son Albert was 5 in 1910, so they would have married at least by 1904.  Lida's second marriage was in 1906. Albert Lee's birth date is reported in his Social Security records as 23 February 1905.

This is a firm reference and Lyda's marriage in 1906 is firm.  We can take the date of 1904 off Albert's joint gravestone with his parents as his date of death, and there is a snug fit with the other firm facts of this family.  Lida Cochran's first husband was Albert McSwain.
