• I remember the family referring to Joe David as Jodie.  This was also a childhood name of his grandfather Joseph Asa Jenkins.  I remember visiting the Hendrons on a family vacation in 1956, when I was 8 years old.
  
  Joe was reported with his parents and older brother Charles Jr in the 1964 Santa Barbara City Directory.

  Joe David's former sister-in-law, Sue Briggs, former wife of Charles Robert Junior, told me in February 2008 that Joe David had been married twice and that he had twins from each of these marriages.  But the only child I could find any information on at that time was his son with Margaret Thorpe, born in 1974, also named Joe David.
  
  Further information was obtained from Joe D's daughter Lenae, who wrote me in April 2008 to introduce herself, as well as a twin brother of Joe David Jr, Jason Charles.

  "My name is Lenae Hendron.  I am the oldest child of my father's 2nd marriage.  I have twin half sisters that I have not met since I was a toddler.  I have one living brother, Joe David Hendron and one deceased brother, Jason Charles Hendron who died in a tragic car accident at the age of 22."

  The birth record for Jason Charles was elusive.  I did find it with his name entered as Jason C.  I had earlier found a Social Security Death Index entry recording his birth and death.
  
  Joe married Margaret (Peggy) Thorpe in 1970 in Las Vegas.

  Joe and Margaret were listed in the 1973 Santa Barbara City Directory.  Margaret was listed under her nickname Peggy that year as well as in 1974.  Joe's middle initial is reported here as E, instead D for David.

  In and 1974, one other name is Robt D Hendron, a name not otherwise known in this nuclear famliy.  This may be an error for Ruddell D (Russell Dean), Joe's youngerst brother.

  In 2006, I found a burial entry for Joe David Hendron in Goleta Cemetery, in Santa Barbara County, where the family lived, and where I last saw his mother, my Aunt Lahoma.  This was the first public record I found for Joe David.

  I found the California Death Index listing in July 2007, along with the California Birth Index listing.  The California Birth Index tells us that Joe David was born in Los Angeles County.  I had already found the date from other sources before finding the Birth Index record in February 2008.  His birth date was 18 April 1945.
  
  I found matching information in the Social Security Death Index.  According to the SSDI, Joe David died in November 1975.  This index lacks an address at the time of death, which is normally included.  The month of death matches the exact date of 14 November 1975 reported by the California Death Index.  Joe David died in Solano County, in northern California.
  
  Family members tell me, in email exchanges February-April 2008,  Joe David died in prison, under suspicious circumstances.  Some thought he was murdered.  He died just 2 weeks before he was to be released.  His daughter Lenae reports (person email communication) that her mother told her that Joe David had indicated he was happy to be getting out and excited about seeing his family again in just a few days.

  I had also found in February 2008 a report that he and his wife had divorced in September that same year.  I found it odd that he would be divorced and then die two months later.  The California Divorce Index had told me that he was divorced from Margaret Thorpe in September 1975.

  In email exchanges in April 2008, Joe D's daughter Lenae said she asked her mother about the divorce.  Margaret (called Peggy by the family) said they were never divorced.
  
  "I spoke with my mom last night regarding the divorce. She told me they were never divorced so I'm a little confused on that. My father died while incarcerated .... The facts are a little shady on his death.  Some say he committed suicide while others say he was murdered. He was to be released two weeks before he died and from what my mom says, he was very excited [at the prospect of being] home with his wife and children."

  What a mystery we have, then, finding such an entry in the official California records!  A divorce that never happened!?  How did such an entry get entered into the California records, with all the right information for these two persons?
  
  The divorce was registered in Santa Barbara County, in southern California.  Two months later he died in prison in Solano County, northern California, on 14 Nov 1975.

  Joe David was buried in Santa Barbara County, where he had previously been living.  The Goleta Cemetery Registry reports he was buried on 19 November 1975.
