Notes
- After James was discovered by one of his children from his North Carolina family, Gilead, he asked forgiveness from Martha and returned to do the same to his first wife Hannah. The 1900 census reports Martha as divorced, so this must have been the legal disposition of their marriage in Virginia. The census shows her living with two of here children who are still single, making a living on their rented farm. Note that she reports herself as born in 1840 (no month) and 60 years old, but his is inconsistent with previous documents reporting her age.

Green, Narcissa Dau W F [no month] 1877 23 Single VA VA VA
I was unable to find death or burial information on Martha, even in the genealogies, and here her grandson was helpful. Doug Green had contacted me near the end of July with some good information and we corresponded for some time. I asked him about these details, and he gave me burial information,.
"John died at birth. Martha is buried at Hopewell Methodist Church at the intersections of Dryfork Rd and Hopewell Rd, Dryfork, Pittsylvania County VA."
-- Doug Green, email to Orville Boyd Jenkins, August 2009
With this information I was able to look up the records in the particular cemetery and found that she and Narcissa (Narcissus) were buried in the same cemetery. Since Narcissa's name was given as Green, this also indicated she had never married.
