Notes

  • In the 1910 census James Martin's first wife Rennie was reported as 28 years old, and they had been married for 6 years.  Their marriage record found later (see below) reports they had actually been married about 5 1/2 years, married in January 1905.  Their two daughters were 4 years and 1 year old.

1910 Federal Census, Murray County, Georgia, 7 April, District 8, Enumeration District 111, Page 14A, Fields Terry Rd, Hse/Fam #251
Lance, Martin Head M W 28 Married 6 yrs GA GA GA Farmer, Working Out [b abt 1882]
    Lance, Rennie Wife F W 28 Married 6 yrs 2 Children/2 Living GA GA GA [b abt 1882]
Lance, Delta Dau F W 4 Single GA GA GA [b abt 1906]
Lance, Ollie Dau F W 1 Single GA GA GA [b abt 1909]

Rennie died about 1916 or 1917.  In her daughter Ollie's Social Security records, Ollie's mother is reported as Rellie Moore, giving us her maiden name as well as another form of her first name.  Confirmation of the apparently correct form of her mother's name came when a search under Rellie Moore brought up a marriage record.  Rellie may be a nickname for Cinderella.  One wonders how the enumerator heard Rennie for Rellie.

A family researcher commented on this record in Ancestry.com that the family name should have been Lance.  Martin was James Lance's middle name.

"James Martin Lance rather than James Martin.  The original data on the record is incorrect."

Based on information from my research, a Find a Grave memorial manager established a memorial for Rellie.  The place of death, however, was reported as Gilmer County, while family residence information seems  to indicate it was more likely Pickens County.  They were living in Pickens County in 1918 when James registered for the draft.  James was still there in 1920 when the census was taken.  Years of birth and death are approximate but very close, based on other family factors.  James married Bonnie Cowart in September 1918.
