    Reuben Jasper, 85 years old, civil war veteran, born July 10, 1840 and died December 19, 1925 at the home of his daughter, Mary Jemima (Mrs. Wm H. Hughes), 1217 South Eleventh street in Ft. Smith. Funeral services were held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Hughes, Rev. F.H. Hook, pastor of the Dodson Avenue Methodist church officiating. Burial was in Old Soldiers Cemetery (North Section 1 Site 422) in Ft Smith, Sebastion County, Arkansas.

    Reuben Jasper was born in Lafayette County, Alabama, the fifth child of Jesse Robert & Jemima (Deason) Philpot. He moved with his parents to Mississippi at the age of five.
    He enlisted in the Civil War on Dec 30, 1863 in Company "A" 1st Mississippi Mounted Rifles. (Pension #306,435) He moved to Egger, Polk County, Arkansas in August 1874.

    His wife was Julia Ann Morgan d/o John B. & Mary (Street) Morgan. They were the parents of the following children:

    Reuben Jasper was survived by his wife, two brothers, Dr. Wm Wilshire Philpot and T.H. Philpot of Egger, (Cherry Hill,Ark., four sons, S.T. Philpot of Gerty, Okla., Alfred and William D. Philpot of Egger, and S.W. Philpot of McAlester, Okla.; three daughters, Mrs. W.H. Hughes and Mrs. Porter Ford, 1708 South Q street, of Fort Smith, and Mrs. Julia Standridge of Tishomingo, Okla.

    Reuben J. was a farmer by occupation, but had been retired for 15 years. He was a member of the Cherry Hill Lodge of the F. and A.M., and of the Methodist church at Egger.
    Funeral services were held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Hughes, Rev. F.H. Hook, pastor of the Dodson Avenue Methodist church officiating. Burial was in Old soldiers Cemetery (North Section) in Ft Smith, Sebastion County.
