Notes
- The first record I have for George Walter Terry is the 1850 census, when he was 6 years old. He is listed with his family in the 1013th Militia District of Murray County, Georgia.
1850 Federal Census, Murray County, Georgia, 14 November, page 236 (264), Hse/Fam #621
Duncan Terry 34 M Farmer $1200 Real estate SC
Wyzetta Terry 33 F SC.
George Terry 6 M GA
The census age would make George born in 1844. Since the census was taken in November, his birthday would likely be early in the year, so 1844 seems a firm choice for the year of birth. In 1860 his age is 15, only a 9-year increase, so this seems to confirm the birth year in 1844.
In 1860, George W is the oldest of 5 children, at age 15.

In 1860, on the same page is a Keith family, in house #647. O D Keith and Susan with their three children Lucy J, William M and Francis A. The Terrys are related to the Keiths through marriage. We follow some of our Keith family in this genealogy.
In 1870, George is married to Martha and they have one child.

There is a memorial on Find a Grave for one George W Terry in Hot Spring County, Arkansas. This George W Terry is reported by some genealogies as the son of Duncan and Wyzetta. Also this memorial is attached to our George in some genealogies.
But this George's wife is Mary, instead of Martha and is Mary 13 years younger than Martha was reported in the 1870 census. We might allow that Mary is a second wife. But no one who has Mary as George's wife has a wife named Martha, ignoring the 1870 census, or perhaps assuming that Mary and martha are the same person.
This George W Terry was living in Arkansas not far from Le Flore County, Okahoma, where his family lived in Indian Territory/Oklahoma. He is associated with Scott county, right across the state line from Le Flore County, Oklahoma.
But the memorial reports that this George W Terry is the son of Mary and Thomas Terry, who are not our George's parents. So it appears some have confused two different individuals and families.
There is a likelihood they are related, howver, due to the location and similar names as run in our Terry family. However, I have not identified the reported parents "Mary and Thomas."
