Some genealogies report that his name was William Hendricks Hayes.  I have found no documentation for this.  It may be recorded in some family source like a Bible, but I have seen no reference to such a family source.  One genealogy reports that Hendricks was born in Habersham County, Georgia, but provides no source.  Based on the family's residence by Hendricks' first census in 1860, that is probably correct.

Note that the 1900 census reports that 1-year-old Ernest (William E) was born in Arkansas.  In the 1910 census Ernest is reported born in Oklahoma, while his younger sister Mary M is reported born in Arkansas.  But in 1920, both Ernest and (Mary) Myrtle are reported born in Arkansas.

The last child reported in the 1910 census, Roy (Jackie), was born in May 1909.  The 1920 census reports the next child, Mable, was born in Texas in about 1911.  This means they moved to Texas in the last half of 1910 or early 1911.  They moved back to Garvin County, Oklahoma, sometime after the birth of Ivy (Iva) in January 1916 and December 1919.

The censuses here indicate they moved from Arkansas to Indian Territory (merged with Oklahoma in December 1907) between 1900 and 1903.  Hendrix's obituary reports they moved to Indian Territory in 1902.  The 1910-1920 census reports of Ray's birth in Oklahoma matches this.  They then moved into Clay County, Texas, in the latter half of 1909 (after the birth of Roy Jackson in Oklahoma), then to Cherokee County, Texas, at some point between the 1910 and 1920 censuses, but were back in Garvin County, Oklahoma, by the February 1920 census.

In 1930, the enumerator apparently misheard Hendrix' name, recording it as Henry.

Earl Jones obtained Hendrix's obituary from the Lindsay News.  Notice that the obit interpreted Edna Era's name as Eva (probably due to a misreading of handwriting of the obituary names).

Obituary Published: The Lindsay News --- Rites Held for Rev. Hays, 96

Rev. Hendrix Hayes, 96, a resident of this community for the past 20 years and of the state since 1902, died here last Friday. His funeral was held Sunday afternoon in the chapel at Brown's funeral home. Rev. Hayes moved his family to a farm south of Lindsay in 1930. He was ordained to the ministry of the Baptist church about 60 years ago, and was active in the church until ill health forced him to retire.

On Oct. 3, 1897, Rev. Hayes Married Miss Edna Eva Talburt at Mountain Home, Arkansas. In 1902 the family moved to Indian Territory. Most of the time since then has been spent in Garvin county and the Lindsay community.

Among the survivors are his wife, Eva Hayes and eight children. Two sons, Ray and R. J., and one daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Cox live in the community.

The other children are Ernest and F. C., who live in Oklahoma City; Mrs. Mabel Webb of Madill; Mrs. Amy Jo Zinn of Oklahoma City, and Mrs. Pearl McCoy of Ada. Other survivors include 15 grandchildren, two great-grand-children and one sister who lives in Fort Worth, Texas.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. B. J. Cherry. Pallbearers were Georg McCoy, Walter Price, Wes Farrow, Everett Gregory, Harrison Archer, and George Huffington. Brown Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
