• Other family genealogies also give his full name as Ervin James Columbus Barnett.  On his mother's funeral information his name as informant is given as J C Barnett.  Directories (cited below) have his name as Ervin or Ervin J Barnett.

  Ervin or J C was born in Antlers, Pushmataha District, Choctaw Nation.  The current Pushmataha County comprised the original Choctaw District of Pushmataha, plus two other Districts, each of which were divided even further into counties.  The area had been Choctaw land since 1832.  The town of Antlers was established with a US post office in 1887, along the Frisco Railroad.  It was in Jack's Fork County of the Pushmataha District.  This became part of Pushmataha County, Oklahoma, with the establishment of the State of Oklahoma in 1907.

  In the 1910 census, Ervin, listed as James C, is in his grandparents' home.  HIs father died some time before the 1910 census.  I do not have further details on his mother for this period, but a genealogy reports that Alice Miney Wilson Barnett died in 1978.  His granddaughter indicates they know him as James.  Note that later some directory listings have his name as only Ervin or Ervin J Barnett.  (See below.)
