Notes

  • IN the 1900 census, George was erported as 8 years old, born in October 1891.  But later infoprmatoin reports him born 4 October 1882.  His 1902 Choctaw registration, however, has the age of 10, which we would expect form the report in 1900.

About 1913, George married Lucy Gregory, daughteer of Dock Patrick Greegory and Julia Ann Clementine Strange.  George and Lucy moved to Wyoming but were divorced there around the time their second son J D was born.  In January 1920, the census reported them both in Platte County, Wyoming, and now divorced and living in different locations in the county.

From the birth of David in Oklahoma and J D in Wyoming, we see they moved out to Wyoming sometime between 1915 and 1919.  Their first son David (Dave) was born in Oklahoma in about 1915 and the second son J D was born in Wyoming about February or March 1919, according to the census report, but in April 1919 according to family sources and the California Death Index.  For some reason, George's middle initial is reported here and in 1930 as T instead of E for Edward, as we would expect from family sources.

George moved back to Oklahoma and was remarried in December 1923.  Fannie Belle Kelley was the second wife of George Edward Tugman, after his divorce from Lucy Gregory.

A Social Security record reports a son named Jimmy Edward Tugmon that had not been reported in other records.  He was born in 1939, so should be in the 1940 census, but that census had not been found for this family when Jimmy's Social Security Application record was found in March 2019.

The aberrant birth date shows up in George's WWII draft registration, he reported his birth date as 14 October 1892, nine years earlier than his previous age reports indicate.

In 1942, when he registered for the WWII draft, George was in Decatur Texas, north of Fort Worth.

George was in California for a while.  In the 1952 directory, we find him in Bakersfield, Kern County, California.  His son JD (called Jack) and his wife Mary are also living in Bakersfield by now, where Jack was a truck driver.  Note that here the name is again spelled Tugmon, while in some other branches of the family, it is spelled Tugman.  George's first wife Lucy Gregory spelled the name Tugman, and her Tugman descendants continue to spell it that way.  Here Lucy's son Jack, however, is listed under the spelling of his father's name Tugmon.

George's Social Security records report his birth date as in 1882.  This conflicts with all other family sources, which report him born in 1891.  His age in censuses likewise corresponds with birth in 1891.

The SS Death Index reports his last residence was Chouteau, in Mayes County, Oklahoma.  Family sources report he died in Pryor, in the same county.  He was likely in a hospital, though I have not found a definite record or report of that.  The SS number was issued in New Mexico.
