- Genealogies and some other sources report information on William Strang, father of William Strang in Stillwater, New York. His wife is usually reported as Abigail Simmons, also born in New York. In some genealogies this Abigail Simmons has been attached as the wife of a John W Strange in Virginia, whose children William Alexander and John moved farther south and west. William is reported in Jefferson County, Tennessee, which became a big Strange clan stronghold.
Few and conflicting details are found in some sources on some of the Strange family and the Strangs, and many genealogies give no documentation so are impossible to verify or trust. The Tennessee-Georgia Strange lineage became entangled with the New York Strang line, which as far as I can determine, are unrelated. I was also misled in early days by some earlier sloppy and incomplete genealogy information. I did not pursue the New York connection, but recently returned to this family. Now that more resources and data are available, I am trying to sort out the Strang line separately, though disconnected from the rest of my genealogy.
