Lela James June 24, 1928 - October 27, 2010
After 82 years of bringing kindness and happiness to those on Earth, Lela James departed this life and entered Heaven on October 27, 2010. She was born in Spiro, OK to wonderful parents, Lewis Lafayette and Ellen Terry, and was raised in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas and California. She graduated from Shafter High School, Shafter, CA in 1945.
After her marriage to David Myrddin James in June of 1951, she relocated to Detroit, MI, where she enjoyed a career as a Secretary with Wyandotte Chemical, Wyandotte, MI, and as an Executive Secretary for Ford Motor Company, Research and Engineering, Light Truck Division, Dearborn, MI. Later, Lela relocated and made Bakersfield, CA her home, again working for Ford Motor Company and also Executive Secretary to the CEO of Mohawk Oil, later relocating to Phoenix, AZ, where she was the Executive Secretary to the CEO of Sperry Federal Credit Union from which she retired in 1991.
After retiring, Lela moved to Vancouver, WA in 1995 where she made her final home. For over 30 years, Lela was a Mary Kay consultant, a business and product she loved and was proud to represent. She retired from Mary Kay in 2008.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents Lewis and Ellen,
her brothers: Raymond Terry, Ward Terry, Eugene (Gene) Terry, Carl Ronald Terry, Harold Dean Terry, and
her sister: Edith Mary Jo Ayers.
Lela was an exceptional lady with a passion for her four footed and winged "grandchildren:" Rocky, Missy, Prince, Abby, Duke and Ginger. She was an excellent cook and baker and enjoyed crafting and scrapbooking. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. But by far, her greatest joy came from being with her family and her many friends. Her love for her daughters kept her anchored to Earth.
Lela is survived by her daughters: Ellen Flores and husband, Jim (Snohomish, WA); Barb Volk (Vancouver, WA) and husband John (Portland, OR);
grandson: Bryan Miller,
granddaughter: Sarah Miller (Phoenix, AZ),
brother Olin Ray Terry and wife Ellen (Pinetop, AZ),
sister: Elsie Fay Weaver (OK),
sister-in-laws: Stella (Harold) Terry (Hot Springs, AR) and Ruth (Gene) Terry (Mena, AR); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lela loved everything beautiful; the sun, the rain, the clouds and even the cold. For her, everyday held something beautiful. Her legacy to us is to find joy and beauty in all our doings and to have Hope.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Cascade Park Care Center, Ray Hickey Hospice House, the RN and CNA staff of the 4th floor/Medical Specialties Unit in Good Samaritan Hospital, Miranda Armstrong, Dr. Kyle Smoot and Dr. Mahnaz Ahmad for their compassion, kindness and loving care given to our beloved mother, Lela James.
