Notes

• John's mother Mary James Abernathy died after he was born in about 1852 and before the 1860 census.  John and his older brother Thomas E, along with a young uncle Robert James Butler, are found as residents in a hotel, perhaps under the care of the Inn owners, E B Wells and her son F M.
