Notes

  • "I can tie Roger L. Tripp in Phoenix in the Phoenix 1951 city directory to Arnold L. [Tripp] and Gladys Ione Sorter, who had a son Alan Lester Tripp on May 18, 1938 in Phoenix. Maybe Arnold and Gladys took in Rama W. Terry and adopted him after the Terrys divorced and changed his name to Roger Lee Tripp."

"I just found Roger Tripp’s marriage announcement to Ida Crowder Patrick. They married 9 May 1959 in Phoenix. It confirms that he is considered the son of Arnold L. and Gladys Tripp.  This clip is from the Arizona Republic, p. 46 [appears on page 56 of newspapers.com]."

In 1936 Arnold was reported in Phoenix again.  But his wife is now reported as Gladys.  This is Gladys Ione Sorter, reported by most genealogies, many of whom do not have his first wife Irene Brotherton.  In the 1940 census they are both reported as living in the same place in 1935.  So they must have married before 1935.  Since Irene's death record reports she did not die until 1953, this means she and Arnold divorced some time before 1935.

This Arnold Laban Tripp seems to be the son of Arnold and Gladys.  I found Arnold and Gladys in the 1940 Phoenix census.  Arnold's age there matches the WWI registration I found for Arnold Laban Tripp born in 1899 in Kansas.

Arnold Sr died in Phoenix in 1954, survived by his second wife Gladys Sorter Tripp.
