Note the difference in native language reported in the Canadian census (German) and the later US census (Dutch).  Also the 1901 Canadian census reprots that everyone in the famliy, including the two teenagers and 9-year-old Cornelius, were in the Canadian Army.  The 1911 census also reports them as German origin, but the language is not specifically reported in that year.  In 1916, they are designated again as Dutch.

The family took a trip to the US in 1907.

Border crossing information is reported for 1907 for the family from Canada into the US, at the border post of St Albans, Vermont.  They are reported in the Canadian censuses of 1911 and 1916 after this date.  That indicates this crossing is for a visit, not for their immigration.  We are told this occurred in 1919, reported in the 1920 US census.  This border crossing record reports Abraham and Margarete's birth palce as Rosenthal, Russia.  I cannot find any information on this location.
