Notes
- For along time I did not know Nancy Isabel's maiden name. In February2010 I got a message from Jerry Grisham informing me that she was aHenderson. Here is Jerry's initial note:
"Nancy Isabel Nolastname last name is Evans, daughter of James F.Evans and Sarah Ann Henderson. Sarah Ann was one of 9 brothers andsisters that came to Arkansas County, AR in 1850. Nancy Isabell'sgrandson Holland married a relative Gladys Henderson and Virgilmarried a Henderson."
-- Jerry Grisham, email to Orville Boyd Jenkins, 13 February 2010
I later found a few more details about her parents and her siblingsfrom Jerry's website. See information on James F Evans. Jerry hadfound the family in the censuses of 1860 through 1880.
In 1860 James Evans and his family are living in Maurice Township, notfar form DeWitt, the southern county seat of Arkansas County,Arkansas. This census reports him born in Tennessee and his wifeSarah Henderson born in Mississippi.
James F Evans 28 M W Farmer $800 Real Estate $300 Personal Tennessee[abt 1832]
Sarah M Evans 24 F W Housekeeping b Mississippi [abt 1836]
Margarett A Evans 6 F W b Arkansas [abt 1854]
Nancy I Evans 4 F W b Arkansas [abt 1856]
In 1870, it appears that Isabel's mother is the head of the household, and thus likely widow.

In 1880, the census shows that Sarah moved her family to Bayou Metotownship of the same county. This census reports Sarah's birth stateas Tennessee instead of Mississippi. I favor Mississippi, since herbrother Joseph, two years younger than Sarah, was also reported bornin Mississippi. Likewise the 1860 census. This census also reportsSarah's husband was born in Tennessee, consistent with his report in1860.

In 1920, all the children have left the household except for Jerome, who remains as Head of the household, and his mother Nancy Isabelcontinues to stay with him. Note that he is listed as Frank, givingus the middle name for which we had only the initial in 1900 and 1910. In this census, the enumerator spells her name in the French fashion,Isabelle.
