Notes
- Our family had only the name Tripann Mullins, no other name that mightbe a maiden name. No maiden name is given in the other sources I haveseen.
Her name is written Trip Ann in the 1870 (Georgia) and 1880 (Texas)censuses. Her great-grandson Mike Taylor also reports that the nameis written as Trip Ann on her gravestone, which I have not seenmyself. Her marriage registry entry has the name spelled as Tripann.Mike indicates that it seems likely her name is Tripann Velma. Hereports that he has seen several documents she signed as T V Mullins. One of his aunts reported that her middle name was Velma. This isinteresting in light of the census entry of 1860 which has her name asTrapan [sic] A.
In the 1850 census in Gilmer County, Georgia, she was listed asTripand.

Tripand West 1 M [sic] SC
In 1860 she appears as Trapan A. This latter entry is notable, sinceit gives another initial A for a second name in addition to Tripann,in contrast to the two sources that indicate Trip and Anna separatenames. Her name appears as a single name in a form similar to Tripannconsistently enough to lend weight to the idea that Tripann's"official" name was one name rather than two, though it was found onher grave as two names. Also note that in 1960 she is reported bornin Georgia, while in 1850 place of birth was South Carolina, like theother chldren.

In 1870, we find Trip Ann as the second daughter of Benjamin andFrances (Francis) West in Pickens County, Georgia, with a Jasper P Oaddress.

Before the 1880 census, Gif and Tripann have married and have 4children, and they have moved to Bosque County, Texas. Their parentshave also moved with them. Gif's paretns are living in the samehousehold with them, and her father Benjamin, her sister Elmina andher son John live nearby in one household.

The anonymous Ancestry World Tree source misspells her husband's nameas Griffin, but otherwise it provides excellent detail and a list ofall the children. The marriage registry entry of their marriage hasGiffin as Giffen. All the family sources spell it Giffin, or have thenickname Gif or Giff.
Since their oldest child is reported as age 9 in 1880, it appears thatGif and Tripann married in 1870, after the census. They appear tohave moved to Texas in about 1876. One child was born in 1875 inGeorgia and the next in 1877 in Texas.
