Notes

  • Maggie Burton
    Birth 1848 in North Carolina
Death Abt 1877 in Newbern, Dyer, Tennessee
Marriage 23 Sep 1866 Newbern, Dyer, Tennessee, to James Anderson Brinkley
    --  Williams/Brinkley/Mason/Vaughn, http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/49994/person/-2062686592?ftm=1

Here we see that family sources report the death of Maggie occurred in Newbern, Tennessee, in about 1877.  Yet family sources also report that two of her children were born in Arkansas, in 1872 and 1876.  The 1870 Dyer County, Tennessee, census reports James M born in Tennessee, which makes sense, since they are still in the county where they married and are still living.  Yet later censuses report both him and later brother Robert C (born 1876) as born in Arkansas.  This period of the family's life is confusing and family members are searching for corroborating evidence to clarify and fill in the gaps.

Perhaps Maggie actually died in Arkansas, and was taken home for burial?

Robert C Brinkley appears to be a child of the same James and Maggie Brinkley who earlier had a son named Robert, who must have died after the 1870 census in Dyer County, Tennessee.  It has been proposed that they named the later Robert C after the lost child.  We find Robert C in later censuses, married to Beulah, living in Johnson County, Texas, where the family finally settled.
