Notes

  • Family sources list her as Ocy.  It appears the actual formal name was Osa, as recorded in the 1910 and 1920 censuses.  She is listed in 1920 as Osa I Jenkins.  This matches the pattern of the name Asa being commonly pronounced Acy in the Jenkins family.

"Everett married Ocy McClanahan, whose parents are believed to have lived on a farm west of Marlow.  Everett subsequently moved to Mountain View where he later worked with his brother Ben in his dry cleaning shop."
--  Harold Keith Christian, Jenkins Family History, private document.

In 1910 Everett and Ocy were in Mountain View, Kiowa County, Oklahoma.  Everett was described as working in that business.

Everertt soon went into oil field work.  In his 1917 World War I draft registration he reported his occupation as oil pumper, working at that time near home in Healdton, Carter County, Oklahoma.  In 1920 he was reported just over the border in Texas working as a well driller.  Also there was his sister Mary Yates and her family, sharing the household with Everett and Ocy in Burkburnett, near Wichita Falls.

In 1930, Osa is listed as head of the household and a widow, living in Earlsboro, Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma.  This seems to conflict, however, with the information about James Everett Jenkins, which I had found before locating this 1930 census record.  The California Death Index indicates he moved to California, supposedly with his family, and died in Los Angeles in 1963.

I found Everett in a different Oklahoma location in the 1930 census.  He is working at his old trade of tailoring, as reported in the 1910 census.

It looks like they divorced.  However they are back together later and they are listed together in the Oklahoma City Directory for 1936 and 1937.  And though in 1940, Everett is reported as divorced, they seem to be together later.  At least they are in the same area and are buried in the same cemetery in Orange County, as well as their son Harry Carroll Jenkins.

In the mid 1950s, Everett's address was in Bellflower, Los Angeles County, California.  The family notes that tell us this does not include details about Osa and the children, information which I obtained from censuses later.

Osa was listed in the Orange County voter rolls in 1958, two years before her death.  At the same address was her son Harry Carroll and Harry's wife Edith.
