    Nothing indicates Johnny ever went by John.  It appears Johnny was his actual given name.  All sources except the 1930 and 1940 censuses spell his name Johnny.

    In the 1940 census they are reported living in Ada.

    It appeared that at some point Johnny converted to Judaism.  The Jewish Welfare Board inquired on behalf of his mother about his status during the war and confirmed that Johnny was a POW.  this document does not say whit theater of the war Johnny was serving in.
