Notes

  • "I remember mama saying an ole man showed up in Okla, and said [he]" was Randolph's brother from Camp Pot. Miss [Potts Camp, a town in Marshall County, Mississippi]."
--  Lucille Brinkley Mixon, Letter to Linda Martin Hanks, "Monday the 10th" p2

In a taped interview when he was about 80 years old, Lloyd Jackson made some comments on his memory about a second husband of Talitha Green Jackson.  He talks about his father's grandfather Abraham and grandmother Talitha, mother of Fannie Randolph.  He mentions the daughter's name as Fannie, who married Forrest Brinkley, referring to her as the half-sister.
--  Lloyd Jackson Cassette tape interview, Interviewer unknown, 14 December 1983, transcribed by Orville Boyd Jenkins 23 February 2012

The report about the second marriage of (Lloyd's great grandmother) Talitha Green Jackson matches other family memories, but Lloyd could not remember for sure the surname of the second husband.  One interesting discrepancy is that in the 1900 census, Talitha is enumerated under the name Talitha Jackson, but her daughter Fannie is listed as Fannie Randolph.  There are vague family memories about Elijah and the Randolph connection, but no definitive details.

Several family researchers have tackled this problem with no firm results.  One family memory suggests that Fannie was not Talitha's child but that Talitha agreed to raise the child for Elijah Randolph, whose wife had perhaps died.  Elijah is reported to have gone to Parker County, Texas, where there are other Jackson relatives, to buy some land.  It may indicate he died while in Parker County.  They never heard of him again, and we have found no record of his death or burial in Parker County.

We have been unable to find any clear details about the Elijah Randolph that may have married Talitha.

    Elijahia [Elijah] Randolph

Continued research of Elijahia [Elijah] Randolph by many family members has resulted in nothing new being found.  Lee Randolph has been added as his son with an unknown mother based on letter from my mother and Bettie Jackson Hess to Linda Martin Hanks, daughter of Francis "Fannie" Randolph Brinkley, to Linda Martin Hanks stating Elijahia and son Lee left Okl. before grandma was born, returning to Weatherford to sell Land.

She also mentioned a daughter with the surname Kirkendall being married in Weatherford. A search of marriage records for both Parker County marriage records and ancesty.com found nothing. A search of the surname Kirkendall on findagrave.com in Tarrant, Johnson, Parker, and Palo Pinto Counties found nothing.  The only Randolph, married to a Thompson died in 1941 and is buried in Poolville, Parker County, TX.

    Notes on the Kirkendall name.

The most common form of the name is Kirkendall.  There are various spelling of the same surname.  During the 20th century,as spellings and records got standardized, various family units and lineages settled on different spelling for the family.

This a form of the same Dutch name you will see in legitimate family surnames as Kuykendall, and various spelling of these.  In the Kuy- spelling, and original Dutch, it is pronounced Kie-ken-doll.  The English usually comes out Kie-kin-daul.

In addiitonal, in the area we are investigating related to the Randolphs and Jackson of Indian Territory and North Texas, records are few and far between
