Julius McSwain's wife is listed in the 1880 census as Viney. This is a nickname for Levina (Lavina) or Lavinia. The surrounding circumstances and ages lead to the impression that Julius' wife Viney is Levina Padgett, daughter of Wiley and Lavinia (also reported as Levina, Lavina) Padgett.
Several members of the Padgett and McSwain families married each other over two generations. Lavinia herself is a McSwain. Another daughter of Wiley and Lavinia, Martha Elizabeth, married a brother of Julius, Phillip K.
Their sister Harriet L also married one of the McSwain brothers, George B. The two families were living close together in North Carolina, moved to Tennessee together, although living a few counties apart in the 1870 census, and then settled in the same location in Arkansas.
