    Mary Frances Schooley Young
Birth Nov. 24, 1902 Marion, Grant County, Indiana, USA

Mary was the second child of nine born to William Smith Schooley and Estella Anne Whiteman. She married John Dilling Harkins, Jr. about 1919 in Wyoming (possibly Oklahoma). They had two children, Stella and John.

Her husband was killed in 1927 and she lived with his parents, through the death of her mother in law in an automobile accident. She married Ernest E Young on 26 Apr 1944. After his death she went to live with her daughter, Stella, in California until her death.

Mary was well known in Nowata, Oklahoma where she ran the kitchen for the local school. She could cook anything, from scratch. She began her cooking career on a wood stove. She and Ernie raised their own beef and pork, they had a large orchard and planted a huge garden every year. They cured their own hams and bacon and they canned a great deal of what they grew.
