Notes

  • Descendant Laurie Lee Butler Myers reports this person with the full name Mary Polly Hunt.  Polly is actually a common nickname for Mary.

Mary Polly Hunt was 26 years old when she married John Pomfert Butler, who was 27 at the time of the marriage.  John died in 1837.

In the 1850 census, Polley is still head of her household, and her son John Isaac is living in the household with his young family.

    1850 Federal Census, Giles County, Tennessee, 20 August, District 2, page 615 (scan p 398), Hse/Fam #1

    Edith J Butler 26 F b Alabama [appears to be John's wife, b abt 1824]

    Mary M Butler 3 F b Giles Co TN [b abt 1847]
    John S Butler 2 M b Giles Co TN [b abt 1848]
    Charles F Butler 1 M b Giles Co TN [b abt 1849]

The three children appear to be the children of John I and Edith J Butler.

Mary's memorial on Find a Grave properly indicates that Polly was a nickname.
