Notes

  • Thomas moved his family from Giles County, Tennessee, to Alabama, between 1829 and 1834, then to Lauderdale County, Alabama, until between 1840 and 1843, when he moved to Panola County, Mississippi.

Thomas and Mary had 7 children, 3 born in Tennessee, three in Alabama and one in Mississippi.  I do not list them all here.  See RootsWeb.com,
    --  Sarah Ingram, http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=sarahc_ingram&id=I3218, or
    --  David Lee, http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=dlee-pobox&id=I195

The names of 6 children were given to me by a descendant, Laurie Lee Butler Myers.  I already had the names and families of John Benjamin Butler and William H Butler from other sources.  Laurie Lee gave me the rest.  There was also another child who died in  infancy, which I do not show in the list.

David Lee reports that Thomas died about 1851.  I have not found a death or burial record.

In this 1850 census, Thomas and Mary's son Rufus A is living next door.  Rufus and his wife Mary have one son, 4-month-old Thomas E.  In 1960, this Thomas, along with his 8-year-old brother John, is enumerated as age 10, in household of the Wells family, who are hotel keepers.  Rufus' wife Mary James Abernathy died sometime before the 1860 census.  Elbert S Abernathy is Mary Abernathy Butler's brother.
