Notes
- The name Ouida is pronounced "Wee-duh." I recall hearing about Aunt Ouida, though I don't remember ever meeting any of Julia Virginia's family.
In the 1900 census the writing looks like Orda. It could be a closed E that is somewhat flattened; it looks somewhat like other E's in names on that census sheet. Perhaps the spelling intended in 1900 was also Oeda.

The name is written on the back of a family picture (in the possession of Aretha Tucker Jenkins) is spelled Wedia. I cannot recall if I actually saw it spelled as a child. But I always thought of the name with the common spelling of Ouida. This is how I find it spelled in some other references and later censuses.

I note that the census official in 1910 recorded her name as Oeda. Georgia is reported here as Ouida's place of birth by this census. But the family are in Marlow by 1900.
Ouida married Edward P Hill. It appears that they moved to Georgia soon after marriage. It appears to be them in Georgia in the 1920 census, and I have not found any matching couple appears in the 1920 Oklahoma census. The census was taken at Camp Benning, which probably explains the location. Edward was likely in the service during WWI, and stationed at Camp Benning. Upon release they moved back home to Oklahoma.

Ouida was listed as in Hse #69, Fam #70
They are back in Stephens County, Oklahoma in 1930. According to the 1930 census, they married when he was 20 and she was 19. This matches with their ages in 1920 with Edward age 21 and Ouida age 20. The gap widens in 1930, when they are 35 and 30 respectively.

I have wondered about Ouida's middle name Mayfield. A surname as a middle name usually indicates an ancestor surname, often on the mother's side of the family. I have not found a Mayfield in either the Wall or the Terry line.
Ouida's sister Julia Virginia gave the names of her family members to my mother Lou Ila Gregory Jenkins in about 1955. The information from this list says Ouida gives Ouida's middle name as Mayfield. Note that her middle name in the 1940 census was Mae, which could be short for Mayfield. Julia Virginia gives Ouida's birth date as was born on 17 July 1899. This is also the date on her grave.
This SS record may be for another Ouida Hill. I am aware of another Ouida born married to an Edward Hill in Virginia. This Ouida was born in Virginia. I have not seen a record with a middle name or initial for her. There is also some connection to Hawaii, so this may be the Virginia Ouida Hill's record. But many genealogies of this same Terry family reference this record as the report of Ouida Mayfield Terry Hill's death.
