Roy R. Hill Dies After Long Illness; Burial at Gotebo
Roy Hill, a tuberculosis sufferer for many years, died at his home on East Birch street at 11:20 a.m. Sunday [27 Nov 1949]. Services were at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday [30 Nov 1949] in the Methodist church with Rev. Brodace Elkins, pastor, preaching the sermon. Arrangements were in charge of Pitcher's funeral home and burial was in the Gotebo cemetery.
Roy Robert Hill was born Dec. 6, 1893 in Wise county, Texas. When he was a small boy his parents came to Oklahoma and located at Gotebo. He was married to Ethel Spaulding April 1, 1915, in Gotebo. He came to Carnegie with his family in 1931 and this has been his home since. Roy and his uncle, Mac Hill, at one time conducted a meat market here and he engaged in the livestock business until his health failed in 1940. He spent many months in the hospital at Clinton on three occasions. His last stay in the hospital was in the spring of 1948. Since that time he has been at his home here. He was seriously ill three weeks before his death.
He was converted when a boy in the Pentecostal church.
Survivors are the wife, Mrs. Ethel Hill of the home;
seven daughters, Mrs. Dorothy McCaa, Bakersfield, Calif.; Mrs. Royce Salyers, Wylie, Texas; Mrs. Perdeita Reid, Santa Monica, Calif.; Mrs. Betty Stewart, Marysville, Colo.; Mrs.
Kathrine Guest, Venice, Calif.; Mrs. Billy Ann Henderson, Fort Cobb, and Sandra Sue at home;
two sons, Donald Lloyd and Jimmy at home;
five brothers, Oscar, Ed and Lois, all of Oklahoma City; Buck of Beaudesta, Calif.;
three sisters, Mrs.Gertrude Ellis, Port Arthur; Mrs. Grace Coulter, Durant, and Mrs. Lee Collier, Redonda Beach, California,
and 13 grandchildren.
